CIM_ERR_FAILED: CIM model version insufficient

Former Member

Hi Experts,

We are upgrading our portal from 7.3 to 7.4 version. during the downtime phase, we encounter the below issue in step - import sr-cda models.

"com.sap.sdt.sldeploymentlib.SLDeploymentException: CIM_ERR_FAILED: CIM

model version insufficient, version in <local>, namespace active is

1.6.17, but should be greater or equal to 1.6.37"

we thought the SLD model version could be a issue, we tried updating the model version to latest 1.6.38 and also the CR content, but it didnt help.

Has anyone faced similar issue , I could not find any relevant info in SAP notes.

Please help in solving this issue.

Hi Sree,

I am stuck at the same point with exactly the same issue.(PI 7.31, only Java system, SPS update)

My SLD model version is 1.6.36 but still it says the same above screen, seems its not able to detect the version correctly.

Please do let me know if you get any clue on this..

Hi Umang,

For which component is it showing the error in your case?

For me it shows for the LMMODELNW component .

Which SP are you updating in ur case?

Sree.

Hi Sree,

Yes, the same :: LMMODELNW11_0-20007058.SCA

I am just updating PI 7.31 SP08 -->SP11

here is the error screen..

tried many of things with no luck..did you manage find anything

do you think the apps restart at this point would help; is it advisable?

As you already said "seems its not able to detect the version correctly."

even my CIM model version --earlier for me it was 1.6.36 and now .38..

Do update if you find anything..

Hi Umang,

Thanks for the info. I am trying to figure out the common criteria b/w both our issues.

Which version of SUM tool are you using?

I am using the latest one SP10, patch3.

Even though the model version of SLD we have is latest, the tool is deploying a version 1.6.17 SL model version  the deployment of cr-sda model is initiated.

Sree

Hi Sree,

I think both of our issues are exactly the same

as am using the same version( latest one of SUM) SP10 patch 3)

I also raised an SAP OSS as all the things i have tried doesn't help.

SAP came back to me asking for

1. Turn on the SUM Debug trace, then attach the logs mentioned in KBA

1838153

2. Attach the stack.xml being used for the upgrade

3. Screenshot of SLD "Data" tab, showing the current CIM model version

Which am in process of providing, was also trying to analyse the logs after debug option ans looks like now SAP has to come with with something ; may be some issue with the latest patch of SUM..but I really need a workaround at the earliest..

Let me know if you find any workaround in the meanwhile.

Thanks

Hi Sree,

This is possibly a new issue that occurs in SUM SP10 PL03 only.

SAP have few other reports of the same issue in the last two days.

It is still under investigation by SAP.

Unfortunately, you cannot simply use an older version of SUM for the execution phase. You

need to reset the upgrade as per the SUM guide, section 5.6. Then, extract the older SUM version and try the upgrade again from the start.

Hi Umang,

Thanks for the update. I was checking the sda files being deployed ( under ../tmp folder) and found that during each start of deployment it was deploying a 1.6.17 cim model version instead of the latest available. From the sda file being deployed, the cim model, cr content all the files are old versions.

Looks like some packaging issue with the sda files here.

Right if there is no workaround provided by SAP, we have to reset the upg, which would be a huge time consuming activity.

We too have raised an OSS, but no update has come so far.

I have anyhow highlighted my findings with SAP.

One option as a work around I can think of is updating the sda file mentioned above with latest cim model files from SMP. Hope this is the only sda file that checks the model version.

After that retrying the deployment of cr-sda files may get through.

I have not yet applied the above suggestion, but will definitely see if SAP would approve of the same.

pls do post if you get any update from SAP .

Sree

Dear All,

I have used the SUM SP10 patch level 5 and did not face the issue.

My update (PI 7.3)  to stack 11 finished successfully

Kind regards,

Gents,

The latest SP10 patch 16 has the same bug and the sap note 2009592 is not working for both option 1 and 2. I have run out of time and is there anyone with an idea of how to go around this problem. I am running EHP7 upgrade on a dual stack ERP system. My SLD system is my PI system.

Hi Charles,

This is a very old (and long ago marked answered) thread, so I would suggest you raise this as a new question, referencing this old discussion for context. Also, I suspect you mean SUM 1.0 SP16 PL10, not SP10 PL16, right?

Cheers,

Matt

2. Restart the system

3 Implement method two of sap note 2009592

4.Change the safe mode back to yes

This is due to a bug in SUM SP10 PL3.

Had to restart the upgrade using an older version of SUM tool for the upgrade.

Hi all,

I have got CIM failed error for LMMODELNW component.

my problem has resolved by updating CIM version in

URL http://<host:port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tc~sld~wd~main/Main?domain=EDEN

once you update restart the SLD in same URL.

I have repeated the step with same SUM SP10, it worked fine for me, my upgrade to SP11 has completed successfully.
let me know if you need any help.

thanks,

Hi All,

I have disabled the SAFE mode through Configtool and restarted Java instance. Now I am able to launch the URL http://<host:port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tc~sld~wd~main/Main?domain=EDEN but once I try to login with SAP* user (I cannot use any other users) I can see only a blank page...

Any idea?

Many thanks

Thanks for the updates!

@Jonathan, only the latest cim file needs to be imported.

This is SLD packaging issue and SAP is working on the final solution still

Giuseppe,

I get the same when I log into as SAP*. Were you able to solve this so that you could import the CIM updates?

Hi

I have followed below snote (2009592):

2009592 - CIM_ERR_FAILED: CIM model version insufficient during execution of the import cr-sda model...

followed 1st workaround

Follow these steps to replace one of jars files which SUM uses:

1) - Download the zip file from attachments, unzip it, inside is a .jar file (from above snote)

2) - Stop SUM and its related services

3) - Replace sap.com~tc~sld~sldclient_lib.jar in /usr/sap/<SID>/SUM/sdt/lib directory

4) - Start SUM and continue from the point of failure

Thanks and regards

Hi,

thank you very much for the link to the SAP note. The workaround (1) works for me . It seems to be that version SUM SP10 PL3 is very bugy, because i have an other issue on my ABAP System during the upgrade to NW 7.40.

Former Member

Hi, Sree.

Encountered this error as well yesterday.

Luckily though I encountered it on a newly installed SAP NW 7.4.

I was able to complete the update to SPS6 from SPS5 (initially delivered via SAP NW 7.4 SR1) using SUM tool SP09 but I had to reinstall the system to avoid any inconsistencies.

If it's urgent for you, maybe you can consider to do a restore (if you are at a SUM tool phase that won't allow you to reset the update) then re-run the update using SUM tool SP09.

This issue would definitely be something with SUM tool SP10.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Francis

Hi All.

I encountered the same error as well using SUM SP10 Patch 3 in two different scenarios. One was upgrading a NetWeaver 7.0 installation to NetWeaver 7.4 and another was applying a support package stack to a NetWeaver 7.3 installation.

I too was able to complete the upgrade by the server to a point prior to the upgrade and using SUM SP09.

As Francis said, it's clearly an issue with SUM SP10.

Hi Sree,

This is due to SLD issue.

Did you reset and restart?

If not update CIM namespace model version using below link : :Might work:
http://<host:port>/webdynpro/dispatcher/sap.com/tc~sld~wd~main/Main?domain=EDEN

Let me know if it helps!

Thanks

Hi Umang,

I was also facing the same situation, and tried your suggestion, updating the model to 1.6.38. It did indeed fix the problem, and my update is now progressing again.

Hi James,

how did you update CIM model? I am stuck in the same phase using SUM SP10 patch3 and I am not able to open SLD URL because the update process is still pending and java processes are started in safe mode

Thanks

Giuseppe

Hi Guiseppe,

For me, I didn't have any issues with safe mode. I'm not sure if it was because of the version (I was updating from 7.31 SP6-->SP9), or something I did trying to get it to work.

Did you use the "domain=EDEN" parameter in the URL, this is the key to the solution, as you're not updating the regular model.

The only thing I had changed prior to this was to set the logging level to DEBUG in the logging.properties files as per note 1838158, which Umang mentioned above. But this would have no bearing on the solution, and they should be changed back before continuing anyway

I also restarted the system manually a couple of times, but didn't do anything else (like bringing it out of safe mode)

I was just about to restore back and start again, when I saw this suggestion, so gave it a try first.

All I did was to call the URL Umang provided, updated the model using the usual cimsap*.zip download (latest one) and then continued SUM.

Cheers,

James

Umang has the solution using the domain=EDEN

It's kinda a temporary CIM used by SUM and this is the CIM_MODEL you need to upgrade.

It worked for me with SUM SP10 Patch 3 (lastest).

Thanks a lot for this !

(By the way, how did you managed to find this ??!! haha !)

Like everyone else here. This has worked for me as well. Upgrading NW JAVA 7.31 SP1 to SP7 plus an IDM Add-on to SP8. Thanks a lot
