Downloading project to local station

Hello all,

I've started working at a new site, where they use JDI. I always worked localy before and this is the first I've seen of JDI.

Although they use it here, no-one seems to know how. They seem to create DC (WebDynpro) projects but then only ever access them on the machine on which they were created and never check them into the DTR.

What we want to do right now is for me to download to my station the latest version of a particular project. I have no clue how to and no-one here knows either.

I asked the guy who had been working on the project to perform the check in, which he did. Now I want to check the project out. I've opened the DTR perspective, found the project under 'inactive' DC's. Created an activity in the namespace, which then appeared as an Open Activity on the right hand pane, which I believe is a representation of my local system. What exactly should I add, and how, to this activity? When I select, Sync, from the context menu of the project on the repository browser it seemed to download the project to my machine but a lot of imports are not recognised... for instance, none of the custom controller imports are recognised.

The portal was recently upgraded to SP14 but the version of NWDS on my station is 11. I've already spoken with someone about that and all of the developers will be getting NWDS upgrades soon. I guess that could be a problem but it's more likely that I just don't know what I'm doing with the JDI.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Patrick,

You should go through the tutorials on help which explain in detail how to work with JDI and NWDS.

As for changing the code you may just right click on the DC from the inactive DC's view and select create project. That will create a DC project and will open it for you. Now go and change it. As soon as you make any change it will ask for an activity. Select the activity that you have already created. This way you will be able to add resources to activity.

You should also get comfortable with Development Configurations prespective.

Thanks for the link and the info.

From the inactive DC's view I see the project name as a folder. The context menu of that does not have a 'Create Project', however, underneath that folder is a folder called '_comp' and the context menu there does have a 'Create Project'... should I 'Create Project' on the '_comp' folder?

I was able to create the project and sync sources from the Development Configurations prespective that you mentioned.

Hi Patrick,

You are using which perspective. Switch to Development Configurations perspective. There under the inactive DC's view you should find the Create Project option when you open the context menu. Or if it already synced form active DC's you may need to sync from Inactive DC's and right click again to get the Create Project option.

Or else you can use the Create Project option that you are getting.

I prefer using the DC perspective hence i am telling the above procedure.
