Dear All,

l need an assistance on how to use multi dimensions cost accounting,

l have a client with a head office and over 40 retails shops as branches/cost centers.both the head office and branches/cost centers want sap business one to capture their business. about 60% of the retail shops are located in the same city while 40 located in 4 different cities.

80% of the assets are owned by the head office while 20% belong to  the branches.

accounts reports to be generated as head office wise and branch wise.

initially segmented chart of accounts was suggested but was rejected. multi dimensions suggested and accepted.

products: handest, laptop computers, computer accessories and phone accessories. not manufacturing but into buying and selling.

pls can someone give me an idea on how multi dimension can be of good help in this implementation. thanks.

Dear Joel,

Your decision maker want to use multi dimensions for the scenario you described most likely not been given the true meaning of the dimension. Segmented chart of accounts would the most close functions to be used even though there are quite a few challenges to meet all your requirements.

The answer is: multi dimensions would not fit your business need.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi Joel

I think you need only one dimension but the distribution rules must:

  • have two centre codes for shop / headquarters.
  • have one centre code (automatically created by SBO) for headquarters and branches.

Multi dimensions allows you to watch the same information from several points, not to create journal entries in multi dimension.

I wish I help you
