Hi Rao,
1) In which condition we will go for kernel upgrade.
To replace old executable's with new ones by upgrade kernel which is available at service market place.
2)If we need to upgrade kernel means , to which version we need to upgrade.
You can upgrade from 700 to the latest available (720,720_EXT,721,721_EXT,740 & 741 ).
3) what is the latest kernel version available from SAP,If i need to upgrade the kernel version means directly can i upgrade to latest version.
Latest version available is 741.
4)What are the perquisites for upgrading Kernel.
Most important is to take old running kernel files backup to follow successful upgrade of kernel.
Hope this will help you.

Gaurav

Hi Gaurav ,
Thanks for your immediate response , thanks for your information .
I want to know another 2 points , please let me confirm.
1)If i need to Upgrade Kernel means i need to upgrade entire landscape like DEV>QTY>PRD.
2)My Production server is cluster base , for that any process is there or need to follow same as like DEV and QTY .
3) Is there any other prerequisites for Kernel upgrade .
Thanks you.
Hi Rao,
1)If i need to Upgrade Kernel means i need to upgrade entire landscape like DEV>QTY>PRD.
2)My Production server is cluster base , for that any process is there or need to follow same as like DEV and QTY
.
As per SAP standards,if we are performing kernel upgrade try to upgrade under complete landscape to avoid any issues. So i also suggest you to upgrade kernel on DEV,QTY & PRD. Also if you don't want to upgrade kernel on QTY & PRD then first test on DEV environment & after successful procedure go for QTY and then finally for PRD.
3) Is there any other prerequisites for Kernel upgrade .
Regards,
Gaurav
There is no condition as to when a kernel upgrade should be done. If the present kernel is stable then use that. If you are hitting a bug addressed in one of kernel patch levels then update the kernel to the one which fixes it.
Kernel 720 replaced the SAP kernel versions 700, 701, 710 and 711
Read these SAP notes
1629598 - SAP Kernel 720 will replace older kernel versions
1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS 7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11
There are requirements for installing the higher version of kernels. Certain version of kernels require higher version of OS and DB.
You need to update the kernel on all the system but not in a day. The whole landscape should be set with the same kernel patch. DEV on day 1 QUA on day 3 and PRD on day 6
The procedure to update the kernel is same for SAP on cluster. You probably will have to take the cluster resources offline.
