SAP instance does not start, after 7.20 Kernel update

0 Kudos

Hello,

    I am trying to update kernel level of Solman 7.1 (Kernel 7.20) to the last in the current patch SAPMarket Place.

I download  from SAP KERNEL 7.20 64-BIT UNICODE -> Solaris on SPARC 64bit -> #Database independent this package : SAPEXE_600-20005275.SAR

and from SAP KERNEL 7.20 64-BIT UNICODE -> Solaris on SPARC 64bit -> ORACLE this package :  SAPEXEDB_600-20005274.SAR

I have uncompressed in the directory /sapmnt/SID/exe

and I launched the script saproot.sh .

But SAP instance does not start.

Thank you for your help

Hi,

Try with SAP Kernel 7.20 EXT 64-BIT UC,  this may solve the issue.

Extracting the kernel files SAPEXE_600-20005275.SAR and SAPEXEDB_600-20005274.SAR to /sapmnt/SID/exe (DIR_CT_RUN) will not be enough to complete the kernel update.

What needs to be done here it get the kernel files replicated to the DIR_EXECUTABLE directory which is specific for every instance.

DIR_EXECUTABLE=/usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS01/exe

If you have separate central services then you will have a separate exe location for that as well.

DIR_EXECUTABLE=/usr/sap/SID/SCS00/exe

What needs to be done here is to make sure that the files that are part of the old kernel are deleted from all kernel places before you put the new kernel files.

/usr/sap/SID/SCS00/exe, /usr/sap/SID/DVEBMGS01/exe and /sapmnt/SID/exe

Once you have put the new kernel files at /sapmnt/SID/exe you can either call sapcpe to have the files replicated or copy them manually with the cp command and then change the file permissions and ownership.

Follow this SAP note

Hi  Ben,

You may try with 720_EXT kernel or 721_EXT kernel for Solman 7.1

Check the results and post the output.

Hi

1. Have you change the permission?

2. As per the SAP Note 1636252 - Installing a 7.20 kernel in SAP Web AS 7.00/7.01/7.10/7.11

have you follow the kernel upgrade steps & parameters?

3. Check this SAP Note 1629598 - SAP Kernel 720 will replace older kernel versions

1825259 - UNIX sapstartsrv: the system does not start with 720 kernel

Hi Benrezzoug,

Run the below command

sapcpe pf=<instance of DVEBMGS<XX> >

sapcpe pf=< SCS instance profile>

Also paste the logs dev_w<x> and dev_disp
