How to access PPM for Solution Manager integration

Former Member

Hello,

I'm currently writing my Bachelor's thesis and trying to develop a concept with an PPM (cProjects) integration into SAP Solution Manager.

But I've no experiences with PPM yet. Can you help me out, how to access PPM to create projects that I can later link to my Solution Manager projects (transaction code)?

Thanks a bunch!

Got it done now

I needed to check the other checkboxes in the confirmation block as well!

Thanks to all of you - integration of PPM in SolMan is working now!

Does anyone of you has experiences with costing projects via cost objects like internal orders (CO) or WBS elements (PS)? I want to transfer the costs of the project (time effort in particular) to SAP ERP...unfortunately, I have no experience with ECC at all, yet. But I think the cost transfer from Solution Manager via PPM to ERP is a pretty neat way to establish fair cost allocation and cost transparency for Change Request Management at the end of the day.

Hello,

There is no cost transfer from Solution Manager via PPM to ERP. You need to decide where you what to make the time recoding. You can do it on the RfC but then you don’t have an accounting object and with that no actual costs.

If you what to collect actual cost you need to the time recoding based on task of PPM by leveraging
the accounting integration of PPM and CATS. According to the fact that an RfC is connect to a task you know the actual costa for the RfC.

The PPM accounting integration It is descripted in the IT PPM RDS.

RDS content on the Service Marketplace: http://service.sap.com/rds-it-ppm

In help.sap.com you can find the basis about accounting integration:

Hello Axel,

thanks for your feedback. Obviously there is no cost transfer from Solution Manager to PPM, but there is a time transfer. You can record time on an RfC and on Change Documents in Solution Manager and link that RfC to a task in PPM. The time will be transferred (asynchronous batch-job) to PPM. There you can calculate actual cost based on actual time needed and link the PPM-task to a cost object for charging.

According to my understanding, that should work. At the moment I have difficultiers with the batch-job: I'm getting an error, when I try to execute DPR_CATS_CPR_TRANSF --> "Time confirmation is not allowed for the project type" Does anyone have a clue, how to allow time confirmation for a project type? Unfortunately, I don't have much PPM-experience, yet...

Thanks, Patric

Hi Patric,

Check whether have you selected time confirmation for task in the configuration of project type.

Configuration path:

SPRO--> PPM--> Project Management--> Structure--> Define project type

Double click the project type and check for accounting integration and confirmation for tasks (option is there for project role confirmation also). In your case, tasks should have been selected.

HI Patric,

Can you confirm that above configuration is related to project type '000000...001'

Hi Ravi,

yes, that is the configuration for project type "00000000...001" (Development Project).

Does the project need to have a specific status to be able to transfer time recordings or can it also be completed already?

Hi Patric,

Yes, the project definition & task should be in released status.

If it is completed already,  then it will not allow to confirm & complete again.

For such kind of tasks, you need to reset completed status & do the transfer.

Are there any other prerequisites or configuration tasks to complete?

I've created a new project in PPM, assigned a SolMan Project. Created a project phase and task in PPM, generated a RfC transaction out of the task and set both project and task in PPM into status "released". tracked time on RfC in SolMan, that is also visible in the project planning section in SolMan. and I still get the same error "does not allow confirmation" when I try to transfer time recording into PPM. I did the configuration in SPRO as you told me: Time Recording for Tasks and Accounting Integration to SAP R/3. is it a prerequisite to have a resource assigned to the project task in PPM?

Hello Patric,

There is already an integration of PPM to SolMan available since SolMan 7.1 SP10.

You should talk to the SolMan development team before you go ahead.
