SAP PI 7.31 vs other Middleware Software Solutions

Hi All,

We are currently pulling data data from 3rd party systems into SAP through DB connections/links. 3rd party systems have Oracle database from which SAP ECC has to pull out on occasions.

We now want to propose for SAP PI 7.31 (fresh server implementation) as an middleware for integration of these scenarios (all are mostly JDBC/File sender to RFC/Proxy receiver or else RFC/Proxy sender to JDBC/File receiver).

But client is asking for significance of SAP PI 7.31 (or any other version) over any other middleware software solutions w.r.t. cost, performance, integrity, efficiency, error handling/monitoring, maintenance cost etc.

How do we convince the client? Can we have some comparative analysis of such middleware softwares including SAP PI w.r.t. above mentioned points to be compared.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Amit ,

Following may contribute some of the points for using SAP 7.31

1) Since one of the end is SAP system . So anyway using SAP PI is making sence . the ease of

using Proxy and RFC adapters .(good in terms of  cost, performance, integrity, efficiency, error handling/monitoring, maintenance cost etc)

2) The other end is oracle database so again SAP PI is providing very efficient adapter JDBC . So for both the ends SAP PI is most applicable middleware for this scenario

Hi ,

But there are other non-SAP middleware softwares as well which have good compatibility with JDBC/File/SOAP adapters and those are cheaper w.r.t. license cost, implementation cost, etc.

Can we have some comparative analysis of SAP PI vs other middleware softwares w.r.t. points like cost, performance, maintenance, monitoring, etc. ?

I need to explain client, merits & de-merits of SAP PI over other middleware software solutions.

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Amit ,

For the detailed information you could find the same in SCN .its already a hot topic of discussion.

Hi Amit -

>>> Cost is something you need to discuss/negotiate with SAP.

But when it comes to performance ,maintenance, monitoring - I'm sure PI is one such tool which has got huge demand because of it's amazing monitoring capabilities over any other middlewares.

Compare to the earlier version of PI(dual stack), now we got a single stack installation where the performance has been increased by four times.

Applying support packs is an easy procedure with a minimal downtime..

(it's for dual stack)

And i don't think one would purchase an integration suite for a set of current integration requirement but we should consider the future necessities too.

I would suggest to have a look at the blogs which talk about the advantages of PI lates version which should give you enough details to compare.
