PI in WM

Dear All,

I am doing physical inventory in WM via LX16 or LICC and noticed that while the inventory record is active in WM, I can still issue the material in inventory management via MIGO 201. But system will stop me only while creating TO for this 201 document.

Is there any configuration or user exit which can be implemented so that material movement is blocked in IM till we complete LI20 and LI21?

Best regards,

Naveen

you have to get your activities into a logical sequence and need to organize an inventory properly..

do you post a goods issue before you actually hand the material over or after?

How could this activity be done if all warehouse workers were busy with doing a physical count?

In general you count WM stock, and you finally compare WM book stock with WM count and post a difference with LI20 in WM first and then with LI21 to IM.

So there is no problem if a posting is done in IM before the count is finished.

The important thing is above question.

Have you already physically removed the material (without TO ) or will the physical movement happen after the count? In the latter case there is no issue at all.

If it is the first case then you actually did your process wrong, you issued without formal order (TO). And you started a physical inventory without controlling if all movements that happened before have been entered in the system.

About organizing an inventory please read my 2 blogs:

Dear Jürgen,

Thank you for the reply.

Let me brief you about our warehouse activities.

It's a small warehouse and have plenty of manpower resources. They have decided that instead of year end physical inventory surprises they will do the PI process on every month end. The basis for this PI process is, users will collect the materials from transaction code MB51 which have movements within that month. For this set of materials they will do PI process at month end. Because storage bins in our warehouse are mixed bin strategy, they are using LICC so that they can do PI process per material and will not block entire storage bin. Out of 6 members, 3 members will be doing PI process and at the same time other 3 users will be handling the issues and receipts of materials in warehouse. So they found that one side the material is involved in PI process and the relevant quant is blocked but other side users are able to issue the goods via MIGO 201 but without TO. At the time of TO creation system says that the material is blocked for PI process. This is the reason I wanted to block the movement of that particular material in WM & in IM if that material is involved in PI process

Hope I have put my points clearly

Best regards,

Naveen

you have to take organisational measures.

As I already said, a goods issue in IM while doing a WM physical inventory does not harm the physical inventory process if the removal in WM is done after the count.

Especially as it is a small warehouse, like you said, the communication should be pretty straight forward between the supervisor and the warehouse workers and among them.

Dear Jürgen,

Thank you for your reply.

So process wise when users do LICC, at the same time they have to complete LI11N as well. Afterwards even if other users do GI, it will not have any impact but users have to search for GI material document or TR. Once they complete LI20 and LI21, later they can complete the GI process by creating TO which will not have any impact on stocks.

Correct me, if I am wrong.

I think you understood it right.

Nevertheless let me add an example

IM = 100 QTY

WM = 100 QTY

LICC created -> 100 QTY captured as book inventory

Goods issue 50 QTY in IM

Result: IM = 50 QTY  WM = 100 QTY + TR for 50 QTY

complete Inventory with Li11N, LI20, LI21

result: IM = 50 QTY  WM = 100 QTY (assuming you have no difference)

create TO,  give material to receipient, confirm TO

result IM= 50 QTY , WM = 50QTY
