Is Powerbuilder 11.5 compatible with SQL Server 2012?

I have found the PB 12 is compatible with SQL Server 2012 but what about PB.11.5?

Our Company has two SQL Server databases one being 2012 and the other 2008.  We want to update the 2008 to 2012 but our application runs on the 2008 box and is PB 11.5 version.  Would we have any issues if we update?

Assuming you would use the same driver for the connection the only thing to check is if you made any use of SQL2008 or earlier features which have been deprecated in 2012 (I don't think there are any but that's about the only thing worth checking).

Yes, thanks Matt

We did discover problems with 2008 and old syntax that worked in SQL 2000 but not in 2008.  We have since fixed those.  But great advice.

Actually, SQL Server 2012 support is an announced feature of PB 15.

The only problems you are likely to see is that new features of SQL Server are not available. For example new datatypes or built-in functions. Your existing applications should work fine.

Thanks Roland

That was what I was looking for.  I didn't know SQL 2012 was featured in PB 11.5.  At least I think you were saying 11.5 instead of PB 15

No, I did mean 15. SQL 2012 is on the list of PB 15 features.

Hi Roland;

   Already too late ... MS has moved forward already:

  I wonder how long SAP will take to support this version?

I'd say about 2 years given the track record. OTOH, this release of sql server has been criticized for lacking any significant features that might be used by most organizations (the in-memory stuff has significant restrictions).  Some have considered it to be more of a version 2012.5 (or 2012r2 to be consistent with the 2008 versions).  So official support from PB is not likely to be an issue for most.

Looks like Microsoft HANA with an increase in licensing fees from the article Chris posted.

Hi Matt;

  Correct ... the In Memory database options and columnar features target HANA, Sybase IQ, etc vendor products for sure (IMHO). That is why PB needs to be more inline with Oracle and SS than SAP's DBMS offerings as that is what the average IT shop is using and/or migrating to globally.
