trying to install SAPGUI_740_10.exe on windows 10 up-to-date computer and at first it gives me Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2 error that business explorer is not going to work. I just unchecked that box and installation completes, but I don't see SAP icons or GUI config under the Front end folder it created. Any suggestions? This is for school any fast help be appreciated.

Hi Sam,

Welcome to the SAP Community Network. I adjusted the tags on your question to some more appropriate to SAPGUI for Windows installation.

You might want to read "Asking Good Questions to Get Good Answers" for some tips on how to better formulate your questions so that other community members can help you out.

Could you give some more detail on what your installation process was, and what options you chose? There are a variety of ways to go about installing SAPGUI. Also, what error or status messages are you seeing?

You might check the sapsetup logs which you'll most likely find at C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP\SapSetup\LOGs. There's a good chance you'll be able to solve the problem by examining those.

Cheers,
Matt

Hi Sam

You can also refer to Matt Fraser's setting up a SAP GUI Installation Server (SAP GUI Installation Server - Part 1 - Getting Started).

Hi Sam

The file "SAPGUI_740_10.exe" is actually a patch, not an installation itself which is why you are not able to see the icons, etc...

You have to first install the SAP GUI 740 itself, this (50132986_6 - Presentation - 7.40 Compilation 3 Presentation 1.zip) can be downloaded from the SAP Support Portal (Downloads > Installations & Upgrades > By Alphabetical Index (A-Z) > G > SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS > SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS 7.40 CORE > INSTALLATION).

After installing the SAP GUI, you then have to apply the latest support packages/patches:

  • SAP GUI 740 patch 11 (Downloads > Support Packages & Patches > By Alphabetical Index (A-Z) > G > SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS > SAP GUI FOR WINDOWS 7.40 CORE)
  • Business Explorer - BI740 SP07 (Downloads > Support Packages & Patches > By Alphabetical Index (A-Z) > B > BI ADDON FOR SAP GUI > BI 7.0 ADDON FOR SAP GUI 7.40)
  • Also required is the following component "SAPSCRIPT LEGACY TEXT EDITOR SP 00", search in the downloads using the following search term "SAPSLTE", If I recall correctly this was removed from SAP GUI 740 patch 5 onwards and you have to apply this component back again if you still have a lot of SAP Script in use on your ERP system otherwise you will get errors when running various SAP transactions that still use SAP Script.

In terms of the .NET 2.0 framework error, by default the .NET Framework 3.5 is not activated on Windows 10, you have to manually enable it (Windows > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off)

Thanks for great information. My school provided the file and When trying to download the 7.40 Compilation 3 Presentation 1.zip as stated above I need a login to https://websmp207.sap-ag.de is requesting your username and password. The site says: “SAP Service Marketplace”

I do not have access to this. Can someone provide the file on google drive or some other way?
