Custom code Migration to SAP S4 HANA System

“ Can we import Transport Requests (with custom code) to new SAP S4 HANA system from ECC 6.0 system, if yes how easy or challenging that can be.

We have some custom function modules which are using SAP Standard BAPI in our ECC 6.0 (EHP7) environment and planning to move it to S/4 HANA 1511 On premise system soon.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Gejo john

    Hi Gejo,

I assume you are talking about a SAP S/4HANA On-Premise new installation, where you want to import transports from a SAP ERP system. Basically the transport tooling available in SAP ERP is continued to be used in SAP S/4HANA On-Premise (S/4HANA Cloud is a different story). So you could create the transport in SAP ERP system (transport of copies) of your custom code objects - export and import it into S/4HANA. I´m not a basis expert and never done this myself, but basically it should work like described

Once your custom code from SAP ERP is imported into S/4HANA system you have to check if this custom code complies to the data structure and the scope of S/4HANA (similar Custom Code Check step which you have to execute as part of a S/4HANA System Conversion [the information about the custom code check details can be found via the above mentioned links or the S/4HANA Conversion Guide]).

    Kind Regards,
    Frank

There are a lot of resources on this :

In most cases, this will also detect code will have to be modified to fit SAP-HANA paradigm for increase in Performance

The list goes on and on, so I feel it is better to point your to some Blogs by Experts such as Former Member

    Hi Gejo,

    > “ Can we import Transport Requests (with custom code) to new SAP S4 HANA system from ECC 6.0 system,

just like Frank explained, this will work!

If you have a S/4HANA Sandbox, just go ahead and try! (Tipp: start with a (smal few objects)Transport Request).

Of course, the blogs Nic provided are importent and you should read them.

    best

Yes, Transports(STMS) will work and probably that custom code also would work with some adjustments !!

Please make sure the code is HANA Compatible: 1912445 - ABAP custom code migration for SAP HANA - recommendations and Code Inspector variants for SAP HANA migration

    And S/4 Compatible:

    Hi John ,

Yes we can transfer the custom objects from ECC to S/4 Hana though the components are different in both the systems but we can use of Co and Data files to moves the TR changes from ECC to S/4 .

And once you are done with movement to S/4 you need to run the S/4 Hana READINESS CHECK Note 2362553 which will give the list of the impacted custom objects after the S/4 Hana migration which covers your standards obsolete tables , FM , data elements etc .

    Thanks ,

    Sahil
