Catalog profiles

HI Sir, As iam new to SAP PM please give some information on definition of catalog, howw they are defined in SAP and their use and its procedure in SAP. Iam into roll out project,user is asking me to show what are the catalogs that are maintained by other plant and how can i show him. Can i use the same catalog profile used by there main plant.If yes how can i use.
