Problem on generating PR after MRP run (Opening period)

Hi all,

I have problem on generating PR after MRP run. Some Pln orders are generated instead of PR. I suppose it's related to opening period. Can you explain a bit on SMkey? What does 005 Op.Pd mean exactly and how does it affect MRP result? Thank a lot!

Hi Ray,

I believe, you are asking for the explanation for SMkey 001 where opening period is 005. 5 is the working days till when system will consider the opening period.

lets say you have a material which is Procurement type X. so you need to give your production scheduler some time to decide whether to procure this material from outside or to produce it inhouse.

so if you maintain the SMkey for the material as 001, and in MRP is the Create purchase req =2. then system will create a planned for all the requirement for which starting days falls after 5 working day from today.

opening period - the interval in days when planned order becomes a pur.requisition (a time to convert planned order to pur.req.)

Hi Mr. PPIO,

what if SMkey is 000? If pln order is on May 10th, it will be converted to PR on May 10th?

If SMkey is 001, the pln order will be converted to PR on May 5th? Am I correct?

What should be the MM setting if I only want RP to be generated after MRP run.

Hi

If you want to create only purchase requisitions then select 1 for Create Purchase req.  in MRP control parameters when you run the MRP.

If you select 2: Purchase requisitions in opening period then it will create PR in opening period and planned orders outside opening period, and if you select 3: Planned orders then it will create planned orders for entire planning horizon.

Hi Abhishek,

I tried select 2 with opening period = 0 and some pln orders got generated. So when will they be converted to PR if I stick to this setting? Say pln order is on 2th June 2014. What will be the different if opening period = 005? Thanks a lot. Trying to know more about the mechanism.

Hi Ray,

Please check MRP group in OPPR creation indicator must be 1 Purchase requisition.

Please refer OSS notes

Note 23922 - MRP: Creation indicators, PReq. or planned order

Note 206666 - MRP: Control parameters during planning

An opening period of 0 days means that, together with the indicator "Create req. order" from "2", purchase requisitions can be created only if the opening date is the same as the planning date.

For reorder point planning, the requirement date is set to the planning date when there is a shortfall of reorder point.

Therefore, if scheduling is carried out on a non-working day, the requirement date is set to a non-working day and the delivery date or start and opening dates are set to the previous working day.

As a result, the opening and planning dates no longer fall on the same day and the system generates corresponding planned orders.

A total planning run with the indicator "Create purchase req." set to "Purchase requisition in opening period" (BANER = 2) generates a purchase requisition (PReq) for planning on a working day. However, for planning on a non-working day, it generates a planned order.

This can occur, for example, for materials planned using consumption-based planning with an opening period from the scheduling margin key of 0 days.
