Crystal Reports designer crashing regularly on server

I am experiencing frequent crashes on Crystal Reports (version 14.0.4.738 RTM) that i have to run from the same machine as my Crystal Server (it relates to having an external data source that will only allow limited IPs to access, and i need to use this one.)

The server seems fine otherwise - its Windows 2008 server, SQLServer 2008R2, 12GB memory, 100GB free space. SQL server does try to eat most of the memory, but currently i have 6GB free and its still crashing - approximately every 1/2 hr to 1hr during my design process. The reports im running arent too crazy either, and generally run in production without causing problems...its just when im trying to redesign them i get crashes. this has also been happening since i put the server up, almost 10 months ago, and appears to be getting worse.
