Indexing on zero records

Hello,

I have a information space based on UNX universe which is using a derived table (Sql server db), my derived table is returning 0 records due to certain condition in where clause. Now when I try to index the information space it fails, which makes sense as there are no records to index bu the issue is my exploration views continue to run based of previous index.

Does any one know if this is by design?
