Changing BW source system

Hi Experts,

We have 4 system landscape with DEV, QUALITY, TEST and PROD BW environments with
corresponding ECC environments. There is a requirement where ECC TEST system
will be out of landscape for some time and we need to connect ECC QUALITY
environment with BW Test.

Please let us know what points should be considered while changing source system
connection. It would be great if you could share challenges faced post source
system change in such scenarios.

Hi Gaurav,

Please be aware that it is a Basis activity which has to executed very carefully. The procedure will depend on the specific scenario, i.e. in your case a replacement of ECC Test by ECC Quality. On both BW and ECC side some actions have to be carried out.

You can refer to SAP Note 885343 - SAP System Landscape Copy for more information since you can consider it as a system landscape copy. More specifically, the post-processing actions following a system copy.

Previously there was also a How To Guide. I think it is now incorporated in the above mentioned note.

By the way, if the ECC Quality has multiple BW systems connected (i.e. BW Quality and BW Test), some additional challenges can pop-up. Please have a look at the following SAP Notes:

• SAP Note 184447 - Building a BW-system landscape;
• SAP Note 775568 - Two and more BW systems against one OLTP system;
• SAP Note 844222 - Two OR more BW systems against one OLTP system;
• SAP Note 1932459 - BW DataSource: Loading of data into multiple BW target systems is not supported.

Hi,

The basis team should be doing this activity.

They need to mainatin RFC connection between ECC QUALITY environment and BW Test.

Then they should run BDLS to convert the logical system name

and then the ECC test system should be taken down.
