Hi Venkata,

Congratulations from my side on being a part of SAP CRM now. I would recommend you to first gain experience in technical side of SAP. Many organizations don't actually have any positions with role of a T/F Consultant. Some organizations offer this position but that comes with a pre-requisite of a relevant technical and functional, industry experience with client facing roles etc.

So my advise to you is to first gain industry experience in the technical side of CRM and also try to gain functional experience side by side through client facing roles. Functional skills is not only about configurations, they are actually about how you convert customer spoken business requirements to SAP functionality.

Frankly speaking and as per my industry experience, there's a lot of difference between training knowledge and the client facing, industry knowledge.

I wish you luck in your endeavors ! Keep up your inspiration .

thanks rafiq

my primary concern that  i learn crm technical as it will helpful in functional, u know wen standard customizations not achieved for client rqmts ,den it will be done by technical consultant , if that funcitonal guy knows some knoweldge in technical den he can explains it to technical guy. as an added advantage i learn abap, crm technical.

i'm interested in functional , for getting better  job  i will add my technical skills in resume along with functional skills ,and suppose if i get job as techno-functional consultant  for consideration,  what is my role ? my doubt i can do functional but when it comes to technical i can't,  dat means should  i assign techinal coding  to another technical consultant or even dat also  be done by myself.

You can go for a techno-functional consultant...

As you have said you know about the technical as ABAP module, and you learn CRM module..

So you can find job for a techno-functional consultant...

Hi Venkat,

What is your objective of doing technical courses first? It seems that you are more interested in functional role..

I would like, that you first understand what does functional consultant does in SAP.

Because in many countries, functional consultant means he does only business process analysis & solution fitment(i.e.Business analyst) & not the configuration in the system. Here Business Analyst & configurators are two different set of people apart from technical consultants. If you take the instance in India, a functional consultant does both the job (Business process analysis and configuration in the system) and apart from this there will be technical consultants who will be doing any custom developments or troubleshooting.

So, there are very very rare cases people doing both functional & technical role in a project since as a functional consultant itself, you will have many other jobs to do . Having technical knowledge will help you in troubleshooting, better communication with technical consultants etc.,

Being an techno-functional consultant is an added advantage, but if it is your start of career, then choose either one of them..get some expertise on that and move on to become an techno-functional consultant.

venkata,

Ravi has explained things nicely!

If you want to go for crm functional, then concentrate only on that. Do not "invest" time in crm technical!

To be a functional consultant domain experience is very important. Try to get domain experience.

Spending time and money learning abap, crm - all at once, could be a waste!

Hello,

80/20 rule .... 80% functional and 20% technical.  Though what I have seen over the last few months in the SAP CRM world is a move to "technical".  I personally feel SAP is doing very well to answer most of the standard CRM functions in CRM7.2 and this has lead to a move to technically enhance CRM by many consultants, especially through things like AET.
