Scheduling of resources required for projects

Hi,

The scenario is there will be 4 to 5 service projects executed simultaneously. the requirement is to plan for resources
(man and machines) for the service provided.

Eg: a particular skill(P1) is required for 2 projects. how do we schedule the resource across projects. i need to have a dash board or a report showing the resource utilization for a particular project, or time utilization of a resource(in our example time utilization of P1), so that i can plan my project as per availability.

Also the same kind of report needed for equipment.

Can you suggest how to map this requirement in SAP. based on the search I have done in our forum resource utilization(man power) is possible using MRS. please through some light on how to proceed with equipment utilization.

Hi,

Your requirements are met through PPM or MRS. Please go through SAP help portal to get info on MRS and PPM how it works. Certainly you will get an idea. But that kind of standard functionality is not available in PS unless you for Z development as stated by our friend in this thread.

Not sure what extent the Z development is supplementing HCM functionalities to conclude the sill set and availability to assign resources.

It can be sorted out with the help of MRS which allows you plan your resources & your PRT tools avalibility too if need any further help get back pls.

hi Ravi,  regret for delayed response, I was out of station and not able to respond.

can you provide some idea on how do we go for equipment utilization and scheduling.

the requirement is that equipment has to be assigned and scheduled for projects, as we do the scheduling for resources in MRS. treating equipment as MRT in MRS can help??

please eloborate how you have handled the situation.

This you mean to say tracking ,availability & utilization of the PRT equipment? You need to assign the PRT tool to a resource

than these PRT can be assigned to the work centers or the operation through the  order operation even you can assign from the planning board directly no need to go & open the work order if you are using MRS functionality . If need more clarity get back pls

If PM is in place and equipments are created then

please explore the assignment of the PRT from CN22

here you can assign the particular equipment

other way work around is standardise activity number as say 1000 for equipment 1 through out system

and then create a activityin project and schedule.also you can carry out resource allocation

also you can maintain the equipment number in user field of activity and work with the same.

other way work around is create work center as equipment and plan it in the activity

check the report CM01 for work center and it shall show the availability of the workcenter

for resource planning as already mentioned above it is possible to assign resource and check the availability of resources through transaction CMP2,CMP9, provided HR master data is in place.

Hi Murthy,

Same scenario I had faced and we went with Z development, where there will be different kinds of skill sets for different projects.

Resource of each skill set will be planned for different projects. Initially we will plan the resource/machines for the project in Available screen for entire year(according to our requirement).

Then the actual will be entered for each month in the Actual screen of the particular project.

The in Z report we can see planned /actual.

Totally three screens.(Initial availability screen will have skill set options & project details)

I agree with Timothy..just adding few point here.

You query sound like a work force planning as you have mentioned that planning of resources.

If yes,

You assign activities and work center in it.

Now maintain HRMS data on work-center.

These work centers are assigned in activities. and also assign persons on activities in person assignment tab.

Now , A Person can be assigned in multiple activities in multiple projects.

you can planned person and check reports based on availability using CMP2 and CMP9.

Here we don't use human resource management, but instead we set up different work centers for the resources we want to monitor capacity.

We assign the work centers to the activities, and then monitor capacity in CM07 (or other CM transaction).
