Unable to find a LABEL.ASC during NW74 installation

Former Member

Hello,

I'm getting the following error when I select the Kernal files in the SAPINT tool:

Here is the full error:

You entered: Z:\HD1\NW74\51047455_10_2\DATA_UNITS\K_741_U_WINDOWS_X86_64\ Unable to find a LABEL.ASC.. ( look for label SAP:AKK:74:KERNEL:*:WINDOWS_X86_64:*)

The LABEL.ASC exists in that folder.

Thanks,

F

The problem is solved,

For some reason the SAPINST doesn't accept the media file from a share drive... I had to create a new VM with sufficient disk space and copy the media files in C drive.

All went green

Thanks,

F

Hi Fahim,

As you have downloaded the correct media for Unicode kernel.I suggest you to try as like below screenshot.

Select the LABELIDX.ASC or LABEL.ASC file & select OK to proceed.

At your end location path would be like as below :

Z:\HD1\NW74\51047455_10_2\DATA_UNITS\K_741_U_WINDOWS_X86_64\LABELIDX.ASC

or

Z:\HD1\NW74\51047455_10_2\DATA_UNITS\K_741_U_WINDOWS_X86_64\LABEL.ASC

Thank you all for the input,

I tried all this but no chance, here is some additional details on how I m running the installation.

I m hosting an VM (Win 8 Server R2) on a Mac, the media file was downloaded from Marketplace and placed them on a share drive for the VM.

After running the Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 SP04 successfully, I pointed the wizard to the share drive (See the screenshots). Once I click next I get the error I mentioned in my early posting.

What could be wrong in the process?

Cheers

Maybe all went wrong because you did select to install 7.40 in SWPM.

I do not see any good reason for it as it is better to install 7.40 SR1 that is the 7.40 with SP stack 5 included.

The kernel from media 51047455_10 is for 7.40 SR1 and not 7.40

SAP:AKK:741:DVD_KERNEL:SAP Kernel 741:Dxxxxxxxx:*:D51047455_10

So select first option in SWPM and all should go right

Same issue:

You entered: Z:\HD1\NW74\51047455_10\DATA_UNITS\K_741_U_WINDOWS_X86_64\ Unable to find a LABEL.ASC.. ( look for label SAP:AKK:741:UKERNEL:*:WINDOWS_X86_64:*)

Any other idea?

Thx,

F

Hi

You do not need to provide the filename

but you need to target the root path of the media, not a sub dir.

In the wizard selection, I m not able to select directly the directory since the Z: drive doesn't show up in the pop up window:

So I select manually the path from windows explorer and copy it in the Wizard. Is that could be the reason why the install tool doesn't recognize the media files?

This is a problem with the path not a problem with media...

You should be able to see the drive / path in SWPM

In your first print screen you were able to select the Z: drive ...

Why is it not possible any more

I can see the Z drive in windows explorer but not form the Wizard, that was the case form the beginning.

Thx,

Are you sure you did create the share mapping before launching sapinst ?

You were previously able to see that drive...

Hi Fahim,

I recommend you to follow SAP Note  1654937 - How to correctly build the SAP Netweaver Kernel Media

This note will provide you step by step creation of Kernel DVD.

Hope this will help you.

Thanks,

Hello, Gauva--

If you download the media files from Marketplace, you don't need to consider this note since the extract process will take care of the building the "build folder" properly.

Hi,

Use below DVD: SAP Kernel 7.40 Windows X86 64 (51046232). This should solve your issue.
