Deleting Editions in MDG-F

Hi MDG experts

Is there a way to delete the "unwanted" Editions from the MDG system ? Alternatively, is there an approach to change the period for Editions so that the number of Editions already created can be reduced to a smaller number ?

Essentially, we are trying to reduce the number of Editions that were created for testing purpose and are no longer required.

Regards

Neelesh

    Hi Neelesh,

Yes Edition can be deleted. You can do this using POWL or NWBC. Only thing is that the edition's should not contain any open change request.

Also the period of edition can be extended.

You can delete an edition only as long as it has not yet been used for changes. in my knowledge we can’t change the period of editions.refer this document for more information:

    • Hello Reema

Once you create a CR with edition and approve it, you can't delete that edition using NWBC - i.e delete edition option.

You can only release the edition using edition monitor and then create a fresh edition.

Try it in your system. Create a dummy edition and approve 1 CR. Try to delete it through NWBC - Edition monitor - delete option. The delete option itself is not visible in this case.

    Hello Neelesh

A very goo question and would like to highlight some issues when you deal with edition.

As you know edition is time dependent. The data for edition is stored in different tables. It is recommended not to delete the edition but when you have created multiple editions for test purpose in test system then you can delete them with the help of ABAP.

You can change the period of edition but again its not a good practice. With ABAP help you can change the date of edition at table level and use the edition. This is not the recommended way but if its test system then you can try.

What I suggest is try to release the edition based on its date. Once the edition is released its not in used any more. You can then create a fresh edition.

Another option is to restore backup of previous date - you can find out that restore the system at back dated and start with fresh data again.

    Edition tables -

    USMD010C - Edition types

    USMD020C - editions

    Program - edition
