Can WM be used for warehouse management of Oil Tanks?

We have a ECC 6 implementation, where IS-Oil TSW,HPM, EXG, MAP are  being implemented. We want to evaluate whether SAP WM module can be implemented for warehouse process for  Oil storage tanks. I have seen a  SAP NOTE-448696, which says WM cannot be used for oil materials as WM does not support parallel stock keeping -  this is with reference to SAP ver 4.6B. Is this conclusion valid for ECC 6.0  too ?

Hi,

Yes you have got the exact explanation you were seeking in your query with the SAP Note 448696. Since WM does not support parallel stock keeping and other crucial indexes such as measurement of density, temperature, pressure etc, so oil materials cannot be warehouse managed.

Hi Rahul,

Thanks.

I need to confirm whether the same applies to ECC6 too or any functionality change with respect to this in ECC 6?

Also, does any one have experience of using both Silo management and  and WM in the same project (with different handling  of oil and non-oil materials)  - you may please share details.

Yes it applies to ECC 6 as well as per my knowledge.

We have been using WM for non oil materials. Please elaborate your query so that response can be made.

Hi,

Just wondering what are the possible issues/ challenges in such an implementation (where both WM and Silomanagement are implemented).

Not much actually considering the fact that oil materials are very specific. therefore they have separate Material groups, Unit of Measurement groups and some oil specific bifurcations which are not found in non oil materials. But the rest of the materials are like one used in other manufacturing environments, so it is quite easy to map them into warehouse management. Like in other industries, you can divide your storage types as open sheds, or stockyard, or rack and place your spares and other materials in that.
