SAP Financial Information Management (FIM) 10.0 and BI 4.1

I have updated current BI platform from 4.0 SP06 to 4.1 SP02 Patch 1 and DS 4.0 SP03 to DS 4.2 SP01. OS Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

We have Financial Consolidation 10.0 SP09 and Financial Information Management 10 (updated to SP09)

The platform update moved all web applications from tomcat6 to the new tomcat folder except for fIm. I had to manually deploy FIM to tomcat7 and it is working.

After the update the EPM Connections placeholder in CMC shows ???dummy.action.ExtendedAnalyticsConnectionManage.display.name???

At the same time I created a new installation with BI 4.1 SP02 Patch 1 and DS 4.2 SP01. However, if I try to install FIM server, it tries to install Tomcat 6 and JDK 6. IF I skip the installations and select to install the FIM msi file only, it shows "location 0" error message.

Has anyone installed BI platform 4.1 with DS 4.2, FC 10.0 and FIM 10.0 SP09? Any idea if FIM (and EPM connection manager) can be installed with BI 4.1?

FIM documentation hasn't been updated for ages. There is no mentioning of FIM and BI 4.1 at all.

Hello Minka,

I recently installed the following products

* BI / IPS 4.1 SP03

* DS 4.2 SP01

* FIM 10 SP10

Indeed the FIM Basic package installs tomcat6 although tomcat7 is already installed with BI / IPS 4.1

I can also confirm that you can install FIM 10 SP10 immediately after the basic installation as all FIM SPs are cumulative.

The EPM Connection Manager works fine with IPS 4.1

Here you must not (and cannot) install the basic installation because it does not Support tomcat7.

You have to install directly SP13 (where tomcat7 is supported).

Next you can install any SP of the EPM Connection Manager.

I hope that the above Information is helpful.

Hello Minka,

Could you please create two seperate threads for your FIM issue and EPM connection Manager?

Concerning support for BI 4.1, please note that FIM follows the supportability of DataServices.

So depending on the DataServices version you choose, you have to install the correct supported version of BI/IPS.

(you may refer to the following KBA 1740516 )

Also, please note that the deployment of FIM on the top of Tomcat7 was not tested/validated by R&D team.

Hi Mariam,

Thank you for your reply. I will create a separate question for EPM Connection manager.

SAP Note 1740516 does not mention FIM. I have carefully studied and followed SAP notes, installation and update documents and I can say that FIM documentation is not being updated for a long time. For example, the Administration Guide in Analytics Knowledge Center shows 2013-12 as Date Modified, but if you open the document you will see the Date is 2012-03-08. Document history contains last entry for February 2012.The situation is similar for all other documents. FIM PAR is from 16/06/2011.

Obviously if nothing has changed, we cannot expect updates, but meanwhile two new versions of Data Services have been released.

On the other hand, in SAP Support portal, under Support Packages and patches > SBOP FINANC. INFORM. MGMT 10.0 it says:

Required Components of other Product Versions

FIM Server alternatively requires ...

SAP DATA SERVICES 4.2 - SAP DATA SERVICES 4.2 (SMP)

SBOP DATA SERVICES 4.0 - SBOP DATA SERVICES 4.0 (SMP) (no longer in maintenance)

The latest SP for FIM on the same page is SP09 (although Knowledge Centre has documents up to SP06). The fi_10_fixed_issues_sp9.pdf document states (on page 7) that SAP BusinessObjects Data Services 4.2 is supported.

So, I updated existing installation of our environment, and can confirm FIM works.

The problem is if a new BI 4.1 installation is created and DS 4.2 is installed. If then FIM server is installed, it wants to install tomcat6 and JDK 6. The full FIM server installation version is from 20.11.2011. And we need full installation before any SP is installed. I am actually not sure if SP09 can be installed on top of full installation or all other packages have to be installed (documentation does not mention if packages are cummulative).

So, the FIM documentation needs to be updated. And my question is, has anyone managed to install FIM 10.0 with a new BI 4.1 and DS 4.2 installations?

Hello Minka,

From my point of view you will have to wait march and the SP13 (that should ensure BI 4.1 support) in order to have the EPM Connection Manager to work on BI4.1.

Regarding FIM :

  • You can install FIM SP9 on top of the full Installation
  • If you want to try to deploy the SP9 directly into tomcat7 you may use the following trick:
    • Recover the .war of the SP9 on a computer with tomcat6 (be sure you have the SP9 war file  and not the SP0 war file)
    • Deploy you war file into tomcat7. this should work but you have now an unsuported installation of FIMSP9
