Excel as a Data Source Design Studio

Good Morning:

I currently use SAP Dashboard Designer and I am looking to start building Dashboards using Design Studio.  Currently we don't have HANA and the Dashboard I want to create data source is not in an unx universe, it from Essbase so it in Excel.  We don't use live office.  Can I use excel as a data source for testing or do I have to build an unx universe?  I look in the online tutorials and I don’t see that as an option.

No, you can not use excel data directly in DS 1_2.

Since you do not have HANA. BW is your only choice. However, if you have BO 4.x and you have DS 1.2  then you can upload Excel data into a relational databaselike Oracle or SQL server and then create a relational universe and use in your design studio.

You can not use Excel Directly .

You will have to create Universe based on that Excel .

If you are in BI 4.0 and DS 1.2 You should have any of SAP HANA/BW .In this case you can create BW query as by uploading your Excel into BW and create Design studio application.

If you are in BI 4.1 and DS 1.2 .In this case you can create .Unx and then DS applications.

Hi Brad,

You don't need HANA (but that works with Design Studio) but you do need BW or BEx Query, or an ECC system that can use a BEx Query (transient providers) or a Universe (UNX)

So you can't use Excel directly as a data source
