Would there be a way to save a member into two dimension at once?

Hi gurus,

I am trying to find out if it's possible to create a dimension member and when I press save button the system saves this member in this dimension and another dimension.

For example:

I have two models:

  • Budget.
  • Countries.

I have two dimensions:

  • Entity  (E) - Budget
  • Zone   (E) - Counties

Members of Entity are:

  • E1 (Europe)
    • E11 (Spain)
      • E111 (EEEEEE)
    • E12 (Portugal)
      • E121 (EPPPPP)

Members of Zone are:

  • E1 (Europe)
    • E11 (Spain)
    • E12 (Portugal)

Now I want create E13 (Germany), would I be able to create only a member in Entity and the system saves it in Entity and Zone?

Thank you in advance.

Esteban

Hello Esteban,

Just to confirm, no, there is no way to link the two dimensions so that if you enter a Member in one dimension, it automatically adds it in another.

It also looks like your hierarchy is slightly different between the two anyways, so you probably wouldn't want it to link the two dimensions together. Also, if the two dimensions were able to be linked, they would have the same Members, so why would there be a need for two dimensions if they were linked and had the same members?

I'm guessing the reason it is two different dimensions is because you want different levels of bases, Entity is 3 levels, whereas Zone has it base at two levels. If what you were wanting to do was enter the member in "Zone" and it would copy it into "Entity", but the process didn't work the other way around (so if you entered a member in "Entity" such as the 3rd level, you don't want it to copy that back to "Zone")  Am I understanding that correctly?  If so, like I said, there currently isn't that functionality that I know of (because BPC assumes that if 2 dimensions were that similar, it should only be one dimension, even though you want different bases.)

Thanks,

Alexander

Hi Esteban,

No way, dimensions are independent! You have to add new member to both dimension.

By the way, hope you don't use Entity and Zone dimensions in one model - issues with member recognition for the same member for both dimensions....

Thanks Vadim,

I dont use these dimensions in the same model. I want save on mistakes, because they are the same ID members.

Esteban

If you are entering members manually then there is no method to avoid mistakes! Just accuracy
