Basic dates - PO

How are the basic dates (finish date, start date) calculated in Production order?

When I click on the icon in MD04 screen to convert the Planned order to Production order, a small window appears in which I see Order finish date and Order start date. How are these dates different from basic dates that appear in Production order?

Hello Sethuraman,

Your question contains the answer for your query.

When you try to convert the planned order system prompts you with a pop up containing the details of the planned order with option of converting it to PR, prod. order, process order etc.

The dates visible there are basic dates for the planned orders. This is having relation with your in house production time maintained in the material master, routing data & MRP run with scheduling type.

So in short as these dates are for planned orders so they do not have any direct relation with the basic dates appear in production order.

The basic dates on production orders are calculated independently with the data maintained in the routing for scheduling & scheduling margin key maintained in the material master.

Hope this helps.

So, do you mean even the basic dates for the planned orders take routing into account? In that case, how does it differ from the way basic dates are calculated in PO.

Irrespective of what I choose as scheduling type in MD02 screen, are the basic dates in PO always calculated using  routing data and schedule margin key?

One thing which I observe in my set of data is that basic dates in the planned order (pop up window) never show a delay in order finish date irrespective of requirement quantity whereas basic finish date in PO will be say 24/6/2014 for requirement due on January if I enter a huge number as requirement.

Hello Sethuraman,

As I have mentioned already in my response to your other thread, if you are choosing scheduling type as '1- Determination of Basic Dates for Planned Orders', it makes use of the in-house data in the material master.

The period can be entered manually or can be updated with the scheduling result of the routing.

For scheduling with '2- Lead Time Scheduling and Capacity Planning' it goes for scheduling based on the routing data. So it's possible with key as 2 & not 1.

Please do note that you need to have OPU5 settings also in place for this.

Regarding your last query I feel you are getting your planned order based on MRP scheduling parameter as 1. Try it with 2 & see the difference.

The popup at the time of conversion gives you general idea of the planned order so you need to see the details of the planned order in MD12 or MD13 to have better understanding.

Hope this helps.

Sethuraman,

First of all, there are number of threads which discuss these dates.

In addition, go to OPU3 configuration, check the options for 'Adjust Dates', access the F1 documentation for this setting.

Good Luck,

Hello Sethuraman,

Then get the S user ID for SAP market place & password which has been allotted to your client/ employer. Or any of senior might be having it.

Hello

Consulting notes are a very useful source of information. They are usually more detailed than the online help and focused on specific scenarios. You should talk to your system admin and ask for the S-User.
