Change productcode for serial number

Hi All,

We have some serial bound products which can be upgraded / reprogrammed to several versions. Normally we sell mostly the base product, but we have  e.g. 2 alternatives which are based on the base product with a different firmware and different label.

What would be the right procedure to change the base product to the alternative incl. updating the stock. The serial number must be reused.

e.g. X-sn: 12345 becomes Y-sn: 12345 where the stock transfer = -1 pcs. X vs. +1 pcs. Y.

I'm thinking about using a production order for this. Would that be wise?

Hi,

Try  with "Alternative items" under Inventory--->Inventory management--->Alternative items.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Nagarajan,

Using The alternative items method does not work for us.

We need to know which version is shipped for support purposes. The CustomerEquipmentCard must point to the right ItemCode.

Kind regards,

Vincent

Hi,

Can you also let us know here, whether any type of activity is conducted on such product which needs to be recorded as a increase or decrease in Item Cost? Any labout charges on it etc?

Or is it just the labelling which changes and the rest all things remain the same.

Kind Regards,

Jitin

Dear Jitin,

The update itself only takes 1 or 2 minutes and doesn't need to be charged. We do add a small label on the product to visual show that it has been updated.

Until now we did not handle/record these either. (+/- 0.001 EUR per sticker)

So if it's easier to discard the additional labor and have a simple "switch", it's ok for us.

Kind regards,

Vincent
