Dear Experts,

I have some questions about SAP Unicode conversion as we prepare to convert current SAP product.

Current SAP is already upgraded from “SAP ERP 4.7 x200” to “SAP ecc6 ehp5”.

  1. How long will be the downtime and how to minimize it?
  2. How much database will be increased?

Current:

SAP Version: Ecc6 EHp5 based on netweaver 7.0 ehp2 “NUC”.

Database: MS SQL 2005 SP3.

Size: 3 Tb.

OS: Windows 2003 SP2.

Target:

SAP Version: Ecc6 EHp5 based on netweaver 7.0 ehp2 “UC”.

Database: MS SQL 2008 R2 -or- MS SQL 2012.

Size: Unknown.

OS: Windows 2008 R2 -or- Windows 2012R2.

Hi Samy

1. How long will be the downtime and how to minimize it?

Depending upon you system, before you are stating in the live environment, you can create the system in test environment do the Unicode conversion. during the time you can calculate the over the time.

kindly look in the some of the SCN links and SAP Note  for Unicode Conversion

2. How much database will be increased?

Over all disk space increased 30 to 60 % Kindly refer the SDN link

Once you are migrated to new hardware with MS Sql 2008 DB you can enable the MS Sql DB compression feature

Hi Samy,

please have a look at the following document:

https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001279022010E/HW_REQ_012013.pdf

In the end you need to do a test conversion to get the best estimates for both conversion time and DB growth.
