Excel Download Issue

Hi All,

I'm downloading the report from MB51 to excel and when I do so, some of the material with UOM as Inch " is not coming properly in the downloaded excel.

It just adds all the subsequent field values to a single cell and the whole report is invalid.

I searched the forum but in vain. Some of our friends had same issues but none has got the solution :-(

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Raja

The result of the download as an excel file isn't really an excel export. It's more a text file with extension 'xls' or 'csv'.

This text file should be imported into excel with the excels own import assistant. Only in this way, it is possible to realize the correct conversion of the text.Have a look at the text file, using an editor like notepad, before you open this with excel.

See OSS note 569537 Incorrect data during import into Excel

There are several ways to export, also an export way via XXL. This is described in note 358644

So please keep in mind, by using download list -> export -> local file -> spreadsheet
You should start excel first and then use the excel import assistant (data -> import external data -> import data)

So you should set '"' to 'none' for text recognition in the excel import assistent to ensure that the following columns could be loaded as column and not as text or try to eliminate such incorrect and
inconsistent characters '"' within your data intended for downloading.

    I hope this helps.

Please describe in detail how you download, you may have to use a workaround.

    • Follow the steps given by Anna. in your step 4 enter the file name without extension or just use txt as extension. then open excel and explicitly do File > open

you get then a prompt wth the import assistant to Import this file to Excel.

the problem is that some characters are used to do special functions, this is more an Excel issue than a SAP issue. you can for example enter a text with an inch sign in a Excel cell and then save your Excel as Text. if you then open the text file with notepad, then you will see 3 inch signs.

However you will not have this issue with the dwonload from SAP if the SAP report has an Excel Inplace feature, which means you see the report already as Excel Spreadsheet within your SAP. then you can just use save as to save this content as Excel to your local drive
