When attempting to register and activate a service through the Service Builder the field External Service Name cannot be changed. In various documentation I commonly see the statement:
The External Service Name is defaulted with the Technical Service Name
Is there some requirement that these names must match or is it is possible to change this value somehow?
I'm afraid there is no way to assign an external service name of your choosing. It does always default to the Technical Service Name. The technical name can be modified when you activate the service, the external name is always grayed out. Even if you go to transaction /IWBEP/REG_SERVICE to create a new service from scratch (as opposed to using SEGW), you'll notice that the external service name is grayed out.
It's a bit of inconvenience, I agree.
Please note that in most system landscapes the client application that is not running on the internal network will not be accessing NW Gateway directly but rather through a proxy or a relay server. The URL used by the app will be that of the proxy and you'll have the freedom to give your service any alias you want on that proxy.

Hi Brett,
maybe using an external alias could be a solution for you?
