Now, there is a business requirement and our DB team will making new SAP BW DEV and QA server which will be a replica of the existing servers.

Could someone please help me with the link which can explain me the steps to configure SAP BO with SAP BW in the new systems (replica of existing SAP BW system)

I am also not sure if it will really require to configure SAP BO with new SAP BW servers as they are the replica of existing servers.

Richa Pathak

Hi Richa,

when you change the bw server host name (replica of old be server).make sure that you are making the changes in the below locations in BO.

1. SAP AUTHETICATION:

make sure that new BW Server application server/message server detailes are updated.

2.SERVICE FILE UPDATE:make sure that new BW Server message server detailes are updated in server/client systems to commumicate with message server.

3. Make sure that connections will be possible from BO SERVER to new BW SERVER.

4.CONNECTIONS UPDATE:

Update all the connectins with new BW Server application server/message server detailes.

5.check the Bo and BW sso.

Hello Richa,

you have a very specific requirement - which could be accomplished in multiple ways

eg:

1. simplest way is by just cloning (assuming you are on virtual server) your existing server and repointing to the new database

2. you can use LCM to promote contents of one server over to the other directly or using lcmbiar files

3. if you do have to make copies of the cms database and filestores, then here are a couple of sap kbases which can help you get started in creating identical systems (essentially using same cms databases but without cross-wiring the systems).

1275068  - Backup and restore of filestore and CMS database of a BusinessObjects Enterprise

XI 3.x/BI 4.0 system

hope this helps

Hello Shiva,

I have a requirement of pointing my existing BO server to new SAP BW server (which is a replica of existing BW server).

I want to know how does it establish connectivity/configure SAP BW with SAP BO.

WEBI report developers are using BICs connection as a database to create reports.

Hi Richa,

As per my knowledge, there is no specific document for the same.

But you can refer the below document to verify all your setting related to BW.

How to setup SSO against SAP BW with SAP BO BI4.0 Common Semantic Layer (UNX) or BICS - Business Int...

Thanks Prasad,

I do not have SSO configured, so that wont be an issue. Now, because the new BW server is a copy of existing BW server, it will have all the data/connections available similar to existing server.

1) Going to CMC-->OLAP connections-->edit connections and changing the server name in that will point the connections to new server/host.

2) SAP Authentication (as suggested by you)

3) Firewall open to connect to BW server

Do you think it should be enough to point my WEBI reports to the newly built BW server.

Please suggest if I missed out anything.

Thanks a ton for all your help in advance.

Hi Richa,

Seems like these steps are fine to check your Webi Reports on your new BW server.

Are you using SAP Authentication to login?

To login SAP BO applications we use enterprise authentication.

Then it fine.

You can check your reports directly.

Hope this Answers your question.

Thanks Prasad. I am just curious to know how it will go if we would have been with SAP Authentication. I mean what all additional changes are required for SAP Authentication.

Also, do we also require port numbers of new BW servers? If yes, where do I need to change them.

Thanks,

Rich

Hi Richa,

If you use SAP Authentication, make sure that new BW Server application server/message server detail's are updated.

If the system name changes (ex: Change the system name to HBD to HBQ), then all the users needs to be imported again.

If you message server in Connection, you have to update SAPGW number of the BW system in the services files of Windows. Hopefully your BASIS team will have those entries.

if you use Application server details in the connection, then no need to update the same.

Hope this answers your question.
