Dear All,

We have a critical problem wherein our MII Production Server is going down often at some specific time these days and its a Plant Stopper.

I saw few error in NW logs as below

1. Cannot process an HTTP request to servlet [ReportServlet] in [XMII] web application

2. Exception occured during processing of Web Dynpro application  sap.com/tc~lm~itsam~co~ui~nwa~localnavigation~wd/NWAApp.

3. Error in closing FCA streams.

I am really unaware of these error and finding hard time to fix this.

We just restarted the MII server as a quick solution but again we see everyday its going down, So am looking for some help here to make permanent fix of this issue.

Requesting someone could help me on this.

Warm Regards,

Padma Rao

Hi Padma:

1. This could related to your version of Netweaver/MII, what versions?

2. This could also be related to the configuration and parameters used for you Netweaver server:

check this ZIP file, inside you have some configuration recommendation (at the end of the excel files):

SAP MII Performance Logs

3. Are you running in a out of Memory error? If you are using the default settings of you Netweaver Stack this could very well happen and you should ask your basis team to fine tune your heap - perm java mem size.

Hope it helps,

Cheers,

Arnaud

There is also a note pertaining to an issue for NW 7.11:

SAP Note 1441273 - AS Java runs out of MPI buffers

and of course a ticket would certainly help in the resolution.

Thanks Arnaud, Your reply was very informative.

Well I guess its memory problem as we can see now it is using 10GB.

We using NetWeaver CE 7.2 and Max DB 7.8

Hi Padma,

You're welcome.

Your basis should fix the memory allocated (config tool) rather than using the calculated values and if your server requires the amount of memory that it has now, you can always increase the RAM physically present on the server.

You can also reduce the memory used by Java.

At the end you need to be sure that no more memory is used on the server than what is physically available; ie no disk swapping.

In some circumstances, it can also make sense to constrain the memory used by the database, though an SQL Server 2012 will bubble the memory used in order to max out the resources available to its process and this is not causing any issues (as far as I've seen).

Thanks Arnaud, Basis is trying to fix it.

Will raise a Ticket if still persists.

I will update the solution if fixed.

Thanks,

Padma

Hi Padma,

You may want to check the installation requirements for your MII version.  It has been a while, but I seem to remember that NetWeaver versions supported jumped over 7.2 and went directly from 7.1 to 7.3.  I don't think any version was certified to work on 7.2.

Hi Mike,

Can you please suggest me where do I check for the installation requirements.

I missed to mention the MII version in post , it is MII 12.1 and Build 20.

Hi Padma,

Should have put it in my previous post, but you should be able to find it in Services Marketplace in the PAM (Product Availability Matrix).  It may also be in the Master or Installation Guide for your version of MII.  I also need to know which service pack (SP) you have for 12.1.  The build resets for each SP.  It should be in the splash screen and depending on how old a version you have it might be in the workbench as well.

Good luck!

Thanks Mike, I will check on those things.

In fact I have less knowledge on configuration parts as all the time basis used to do that and I never gave a try.

Hi Padma,

That is not too unusual.  Once they got to 12.0 and put it on the NW platform, it started getting too complicated for consultants who only do it once every 6-12 months.  They did make it easier in 12.1, but it is still better to have Basis folks doing it.

The last time I did a full MII installation and configuration was January 2007 (I think) in an early release of MII 12.0.  I sometimes miss the days of 11.5 as the installation and configuration typically was fully complete in 45 minutes or less.

Cheers, Mike
