Virtual Host name for Fail over cluster Installation

Hi Experts,

We are trying to install SAP in MSCS. We have installed database software and oracle fail safe server on both the node. And also completed installation of first node. Now I am trying to Oracle Fail Safe Group on first node. While adding group it is asking for virtual address. I confused what virtual address we have to provide here. Please suggest how to proceed with the installation.

Regards,

Jithin M

A Fileserver has normally at least two dependencies:

  1. to a physical disk (I assume Cluster Disk 1 in your environment)
  2. to a network name (is still existing).

I assume that you have moved "Cluster Disk 1" from the SAP PRD group to anywhere else and therefore it is no longer belonging to "SAP PRD" group and the Fileserver has no longer the dependency to it.

Dear peter,

Yes we have moved .

Add the shared database disk to the resource group as follows:

1. Start the Failover Cluster Manager with Start Administrative Tools Failover Cluster Manager .

2. Select group Storage.

3. Right-click the shared database disk, and choose More Actions Move this resource to another service

or application

As given in the guide

More Actions Move this resource to another service

or application ,,so i had moved ,,,Now what is the solution for that ...please let know.

see my last answer above:

normaly all disks are listed in the Storage Group - disks already assigned to groups and disks still belonging to the available storage group.

You must only assign a disk (move disk to...) to the database group which is not already assigned to another Cluster group (just disks from available storage).

>>>Right-click the shared database disk

Cluster Disk 1 is NOT your shared database disk, if this disk is already assigned to the SAP PRD group.

Move Cluster Disk 1 back to the SAP PRD group and define the dependency from SAP XXL Fileserver to Cluster Disk 1. Then you need to check whether the sapmnt share on the clustered disk is still existing (it may have been removed during the movement of the disk, if so you also need to fix Share Permissions on sapmnt...).

Peter

PS: Sometimes it is easier to start from the beginning. I don't have the time to guide you through very basic actions, if you do such fundamental mistakes.

. Add the shared database disk to the resource group as follows:

1. Start the Failover Cluster Manager with Start Administrative Tools Failover Cluster Manager .

2. Select group Storage.

3. Right-click the shared database disk, and choose More Actions Move this resource to another service

or application

We have follow the same , but now we are facing the problem as below...we are not able to do anything with mmc also.

If you are new to cluster configuration then I would strongly recommend to seek help from windows server admin team in your organization. if you configure and it doesn't work then you will be in trouble.

you are currently installing the database instance (step in SWPM)?

If so, you need to move the disks you are going to use for the database instance to the current clusternode (also described as NodeA in the docu).

"Cluster Disk 1" (you may see the driveletter if you expand the + sign in front of it) belongs to the

"SAP PRD" clustergroup.

You need to select the cluster disks where you are going to place the database on to NodeA (if they are not already online there).

During the Database instance installation you need to pay attention not to place parts of the database on local disks or disks belonging to other cluster groups. You are creating two cluster groups (SAP PRD and Oracle PRD). Each group has it's own set of disks.

Dear Peter,

We are not started the installation of database instance yet. We are trying to create Oracle Fail Safe group. We are following SAP installation Guide "

SAP Systems Based on the Application Server ABAP of SAP NetWeaver on Windows: Oracle" Step 8.4.3.

Hi

as far as I know Oracle Failsafe does not support DHCP configured IP-Addresses.

Therefore you have to create an DNS (Static IPV4 address) entry for the virtual machine of the Oracle instance and provide the hostname you defined for the Oracle Instance here.

Dear Peter,

we have configure MSCS with below virtual hosts name and IP,

hostname1    - 192.168.2.133   --------> Node 1

hostname2 - 192.168.2.35    --------> Node 2

SAPGRP   - 192.168.2.134   --------> Virtual Hostname for SAP Instance

SAPDBGRP - 192.168.2.36  --------> Virtual Hostname for Database Instance

Oracle software and oracle fail service has been installed on both the nodes. And also installed first cluster node. Now we are trying to create oracle fail safe group. so what virtual hostname we should use?

In this case you need to specify SAPDBGRP in the hostname field
