If material ledger is not been activated

Hi SAP experts,

If I do not activate Material Ledger, can I achieve the same to see actual costing by material via other functionality? Or is there any workaround to see actual costing by material without Material Ledger? We do not want to use material ledger since it is complicated.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,

Sara

    Hi..

If you don’t use material ledger, it is impossible for you to see the actual costing using other SAP Standard function.

If you develop z-program to report actual costing, it is more complicated and difficult than using material ledger.

In SAP 4.6 or earlier version, Many company created z-program to only generate FI document for actual COGM and COGS.

In later versions, Many company have used material ledger for actual costing.

    Hi Sara

Without ML there is no standard solution. I use a workaround often, which suits companies where BOM and Routing are fairly stable and qty variances are not much I.e. mostly the variances are price oriented.

Create another costing variant having costing type not as 01. Val variant should refer to strategy sequence J for materials and actual activity price of previous month for the activities

Once you calculate cost estimate using this costing variant, it will be Std Qty (x) Actual prices. This will get you close to actual cost when qty variances are not huge

You can update this price in material master plan price fields
