Upgrade tool to be used

Experts,

It would be great if you can clear a confusion.

I would be upgrading R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 EHP 5. As per EHP 5 upgrade guide and note 1863907 (note suggests that SAPup needs to be used for release upgrade and SUM for updating or upgrading EHP levels) the tool that should be used is SAPup. However I read that SUM can be used to upgrade R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 EHP 6.

Please throw light on my below doubts -

- Is SUM tool only used when EHP 6 comes into picture (like updating or upgrading to EHP 6)?

- Can SUM tool not be used to upgrade R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 EHP5 or any update or upgrade to EHP 5?

Hello Sourabh,

Please check the latest SUM central note for supported upgrade path. only mentioned path are supported by SUM.

4.7 to EHP5 --> Use SAPup

4.7 to EHP6 --> Use SUM

I have a KBA for this. I will give you the KBA number in some time.

In the SAP note I can see that SUM supports upgrade to EHP5 based on the attached pdf file.

So is it a bad diagram or did I misinterpret it ?

it supportes from ERp 6.0 and higher....but not from 4.7

diagram seems to be correct to me. Arrow stating from 4.7 section goes to EHP6 and EHP7 only.

I overlooked the diagram.

The diagram is your answer and according to it if you upgrade to EHP6 then you will be able to use SUM. I don't know why it is like that.
