Hi
I'm very confusing that ,what is the difference between Technical and Functional upgrade in BW.And what are the roles in that?
I'm thinking like:
Technical Upgrade: Deciding on Updating the softwarel like EHP or ABAP Stacks or JAVA stacks
Function Upgrade : Deciding about what new functionality needs to upgrade in BW..
Please let me know whether i'm thinking in correct way.
Regards
Raj
Hi Raj,
You are correct.
Technical Upgrade is done by BASIS team. BW Team only support to check, validate and correct (if necessary ) the object/ data load functionality before and after the upgrade.
Functional Upgrade is done by BW team to migrated the old flow to new flow. e.g. Migrated Update rule into Transformation.
Thanks

Hi Raj,
In technical upgrade upgrades are done by Basis which are change in architecture and patch level, etc. Like upgrade system from 3.x to 7.3 (but still flows can be 3.x, so functionality is still old one)
While in functional upgrade upgrades are done for functionality like migration of flows to newer version, change in flows based on process upgrades in ECC,etc like migration of flows to 7.x, migrate cubes to SPO, Upgrade to new GL flows, etc

Dear Raj
Technical Upgrade - These are the upgrade which has only a technical impact. For example a Java Patch level upgrade or SP upgrade where in only the changes happens at ABAP library level. For the users there is no impact on the functionality which he is currently using
Functional Upgrade - Are those upgrade where there can be possibility of changes in the existing functionality , new functionality getting added. This comes along with any technical upgrade
Let me explain you with another example suppose you are upgrading ECC system from 6.0 to 6.0 EHP5 . If you are going to do the upgrade without activating any new switch framework that upgrade is just a technical upgrade. But if EHP5 upgrade is done along activation of new fuctionality it becomes technical as well as a functional upgrade.
