Umlauts/accented characters in SAP BW 7.3 vs. BW 7.0

Dear experts,

we are experiencing different behaviour between BW 7.3 and BW 7.0. When testing BAPI_MDPROVIDER_GET_MEMBERS in SAP GUI (SE37) there is a MUN that has a German character in it (u umlaut) for BW 7.3.

Yet this is not the case for BW 7.0 - the same test leads to a technical id like [!+0000000007].

The master data is identical for both servers.

Is there a generic difference in BW 7.3 vs. BW 7.0 which we have to take into account or is there 'just' a difference in configuration which we haven't found so far (though we were definitely looking for)?

If there is a/are configuration difference(s) - which/where are they?

Best,

Martin

is your 7.3 unicode (and your 7.0 not)?

we've seen similar "unexpected" behaviour at a client... in that case it was due to the 7.3 being unicode (and the "old" system was not)

unfortunately both systems are unicode - any other suggestions where this might originate from?

I'd say check the codepages... but if both are unicode, that shouldn't be an issue.

Also, how about your extra permitted characters? I remember we had to change our setting from ALL_CAPITAL (7.0) to ALL_CAPITAL_PLUS_HEX (7.3) 'cause we got some "unexpected" errors.

we did the change to ALL_CAPITAL_PLUS_HEX but unfortunately no change.

maybe you can check whether your issue is listed in here http://scn.sap.com/community/data-warehousing/netweaver-bw/blog/2013/07/12/sap-bw-73-upgrade-issues-...
