Prompts in Query browser

Dear All,

I am trying to create a Dashboard from the source BExQuery query using query browser connection and i am facing tons of problem.

I am using Dashboard Designer

Version: 6.0.7.0

Build: 14.0.7.1147

BOE Version

Version:14.0.8

Build: 1229

Issue 1:

When i try to create a query using some prompts(optional prompts) and the prompt values is passed as null, I mean i haven't passed any values.

Its giving me error as the below screen shot, I have used calmonth, segment & Plant. Sometimes segment & plant might be empty and dates are filled compulsory, but still the same error.

Issue 2:

As the charactersitics are from Bex whether i need to keep the variables as Key or Text or Key and Text, I know same SAP is adviced to keep the varairble as Key, but in query browser its accepting only the Text.

Regards,

Suman T

    hi Suman,

    1. Make sure all the characteristic display property in the BEx queries are always "Key"

    2. When u wanted to see data for all values then we can just leave the cell mapped to the prompt empty

but when my client wanted to have an "ALL" in the combo box, there was the problem. Generally when using SAP Netweaver connectivity, we just pass "", if the user selects "ALL"

But in query browser "" is treated as a string instead of null/empty

Hence we have to generate an error where ever u wanted to pass a null, example, =6/0 which will give #DIV/0! error in excel.

U have to Suppress excel errors under Excel Options in the Preferences in the Xcelsius tool

So technical what happens is when the dashboard is executed all the error in excel become blank and if that cell is mapped to prompt in the query browser , it takes it as null.

    Regards,

    Arathy

    • Hi Aaarthy,

Thanks for the input, but in my case i am passing the values from pie chart as a default one. but my client needs analyse the pie using the list builder, here i am facing the problem.

Sara@: All my prompts are optional still the error persist.

Anyways as SAP suggested, these problems will be expected to be corrected in future releases & we need to look for some workarounds.

Note : 1789906 - Unable to manually enter or search a BICS based List of Values in Web Intelligence member selector by value

      Resolution

l Key is expected to be supported for prompts in a future release of the product

      Workarounds:

l Search by key is recommended in that case if the characteristic object has empty descriptions

l Set BEx properties 'Value Display' of the characteristic to 'key'

I solved my issues by convincing the client with different approach for the pie analysis.

      Regards,

    Hi Suman,

yes this was the issue in earlier patch that only text as display type is accepting.

please use Text only till SP8.

and the biggest problem i see in your environment is

    BOE is BI 4.1 SP8

    and dashboard is SP7.

first upgrade the dashboard to SP8 (same as server) and then test your all the issues.

    Thanks,
    Sapanesh

    Hi Suman

    In your above screenshot . . .

Click the down-arrow on the "type a constant" field and change it to a prompt.

This will allow you to retrieve a list of values from the BEx query.

    Hi Suman,

For the 1st point, you need to keep the prompts as optional prompts, and the date prompt alone as compulsory prompt.

For the second point. As said by mike keep it as prompt, and you can select values from that query. Options from the query will be loaded, and you can run the query there. link your input to the prompt, and make sure it text format ( the way the values were loaded while u ran the query in query browser).

I although am not sure where the Key/Text thing in the bex query will matter when the query browser is used.

    Thanks,

    Sara
