are there any other migration methods from sap data services XI3.2 to bods 4.1 ?

Urgent !!!

I have read " sbo411_ds_upgrade_en.pdf" . It mainly use "Data services repository manager" to upgrate BODS repository from xi3.2 to 4.1 .

But this method maybe not appropriate for our project.

Our bods programs are stored in many .atl and .xml files . Before we could import these files into bods xi3.2 .

Now I imported these files into bods 4.1 ,but some work flows cannot imporet bods successfully .

My questions :

Does BODS 4.1 support this kind of migration method ?

    Hi Jason,

If you want to migrate SAP BODS XI 3.2 to SAP BODS 4.X there are two way:

    • First is take the backup of existing database and deployed in new environment and then using repository manager upgrade your "Local Repository" .
    • Second is you have to create a blank schema/database and then configure it as a local repository and then take the old BODS 3.2 ATL backup that contains your complete ATL backup, System Configuration and Substitution Parameter backup and then deploy in new Local repository.

Please refer the below thread for details steps of BODS migration.

    Hi Jason,

I will definitively agree with the Migration best practice already stated above.

You should first create a 3.2 repository first and load inside the full set of atl and xml. If you have some trouble with the designer then you can alternatively use the "al_engine" from the command line. It offers plenty of parameters tht allow you to import DS atl or xml code in a repository.

When you are done with that upgrade your 3.2 repository to the 4.x. That should not be an issue for the repoman utility.

If you have then trouble with the already upgraded code then I will advise you to open an OSS message with the precise errors. From my experience and based on small test I have also done with "old 3.2 code" directly imported in a 4.1 repository... it is very slow to update the library!... but this is not the best practice ...

    Kind regards,

    S

      Hi, Sylvain,

Thanks very much for your advices.

But I have finished the migration . And the problem that I'm facing is "Why the data services spend more than 5 mins to start".

I clicked the "data services designer" of BODS 4.1SP2 in "start", input the user and password .

But 5 mins ( maybe more) later, the designer page showed.

Have you met this situation after imported many ( around 300 jobs , work flows and data flows ) programs into it ?
