What is the difference between doing a goods receipt against the PO and doing a GR against a Inbound Delivery.

Hi Gurus,

Why do we need to create the inbound delivery for a PO when we can directly do a GR against the PO ?

Is inbound delivery processing part of WM implementation or is it part of normal Inventory Management ?

Regards,

Lokesh Sah.

Hi,

Inbound delivery can be used in situations like your vendor gives advance shipping notification (ASN) before actual GR so that you can reserve the place in your storage location for the goods.

If you want to use inbound delivery, you have to select the confirmation control indicator in PO - item level - confirmations tab.

Inbound delivery is purely a part of Inventory management. I doesnt matter whether WM is activated or NOT.

Refer the help doc for more details: Inbound Delivery - Delivery Processing - SAP Library

Hi Lokesh..

It is just like a confirmation from the vendor about the delivery of particular item with quantity and date of delivery. It is more accurate when compared to a Purchase order.

Thanks a lot.

But i have one more question.

How does activating WM affects Inbound delivery or Outbound Delivery process ?

Hi,

Inbound delivery creation is not affected with WM. If WM is activated, in order to complete the GR, you have to process the WM part.

Similarly,  for completing the PGI for for outbound delivery, you have to complete the WM part too.

Hi,

Generally IDN is used to have proper quantity tracking of material. IDN is part of Inventory management.

Hi,

It can be a part of normal inventory management. When the vendor sends advanced shipment notification, you can create an inbound delivery. This saves your time at the time of GR because you'll define the materials, quantity etc in inbound delivery. If you are referring PO, in case of any partial delivery, or only some of the materials in the PO are shipped by the vendor, you need not to change it accordingly in GR. If you are referring inbound delivery, no need to change these data.

Sudeep.
