Hello, I want to to assign a datasource through a transfer rule to a infosource !

What is the difference between datasources with and without that blue square next to it ?

On datasources with blue box, i can right click / create transfer rules but on mine this option does not appear.

Thanks!

Hi,

With blue square symbol indicates that your data source in 3.x version

Without blue square mean your data source migrated to  7.x version.

for 7.x data source you won't get transfer rules. you need to crate transformations.

Thanks

Hi,

You can create transfer rules for only 3.x datasource which is having blue box in your screen...You can not create transfer rules for 7.0 datasources which are not having blue box in your screen.

Read diffreance between 3.x  nas BI 7.0 on google

hope it will help.

Hi Matthias,

Allow me to make an additional remark. I strongly recommend from now onwards to only use 7.x data staging technology (as introduced in BW 7.0 around 2006 I believe).

As soon as you are installing a new data flow, make sure to migrate the DataSource and use Transformations. This is the right and future-proof direction to go: much easier, more functionality, better performance, latest technology, ...

Moreover, I think that the support of 3.x data staging technology will not be forever and could even be terminated in one of the next BW releases.

Best regards,

Sander

Hi Matthias Schober,

Square Box Indicates the datasources are migrating from 3.x version.

Without Square Box Indicates the datasources are migrating from 7.x version.

For 3.x versions we are able to create transfer rules. But,

In 7.x version in the place of transfer rules and update rules we are using transformations.

Thanks,

Purushotham.

Hi Matt,

Blue symbol means this data source is emulated data source. Emulated datasource are 3.x datasource which are not yet converted to BI 7.x. For emulated datasources you can create transfer rule and important thing you cant load the data to emulated datasources without connecting to target(Infocube/DSO).

In case of 7.x datasource you can load the data without connecting to targets(DSO/Infocube) but you cant create transfer rule for these data source instead you have to create transformation to connect with infosource.

Hope it clears your doubt.

Thanks,

Kamal

Hi Matthias,

Datasources which having Blue box -> belongs to 3.X data sources.

DataSource without Blue Box -.> belongs to 7.0 .

Right click to 3.X DS -> Migrate . it will migrate 3.x DS to 7.0

Thanks & Regards,

Vipin
