WebI Rich Client fails to launch and close down shortly with session time out error.

Hello ,

We have installed Web Intelligence Rich client (WRC) 4.1 SP1 along with other SAP BI 4.1 sp1 client applications ( e.g. UDT, IDT, QaaWS etc..) on a citrix application server. This machine does not have the BI platform server components installed on it. The BI 4.1 platform server is deployed on a non citrix application server.

The issue is that except WRC, all other client applications run perfectly and are able to connect to platform. But the WRC application fails to open up/launch itself and closes down with the following error message :
" Your session timed Out. Close the Java interface and log on again."

The same WRC application works just fine when invoked from the BI platform server machine.

I have checked and the firewall is disabled ( all the machines are in same dev domain with no firwall blocking ) and there is no McAfee antivirus also.

Even IDT (information design tool) which is also a similar Java/J2EE based application (in my understanding), works fine in this set up.

We have run out of ideas as to why the application works on one machine ( the BI platform server) and not on other machine ( the citrix application server with BI client tools). The machines are also similar in configuration except the slight difference in RAM.

On running traces, it seems to try and prepare for the Java session but at certain point it destroys/releases the container & other constructs with out giving any warning or error.

Any ideas/pointers are appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Rohit

    Hi Rohit,

First just to confirm, you don't have older versions of WRC installed on the client machine, correct? Some of the other client tools will work with their older counterparts installed, but Webi Rich Client isn't supported to have more than one version installed.

Next, are you logging in in 3-tier or 2-tier mode? (J2EE or directly to the CMS?) Is there a difference in behavior depending on if you log in via 3-tier or 2-tier?

If there's a proxy, this needs to be setup in the WRC options to use (Settings > Options > Proxy).

Thanks in advance for the additional information.

    Carly

    Hi,

I am facing similar problem while opening a Rich Client (BO 4.1 SP2) while connected via VPN Client (Cisco Any Connect) not using a Citrix.

I receive the "Your session timed out. Close the Java interface and log on

again" message while the application starts. I don't even have an option to enter my credentials or choose a system name.

    Thanks,

    Chris,

    • I don't think this is a defect with WebI. It looks to be an issue with Java.

The only issues I see reported have been corrected by either updating the Java installed on the client machine, or making some configuration changes to the Web Application Server when using CISCO.

If you don't think it's your Java or Application Server - then I would recommend you open a support incident if you want support to work on it.

Also, considering SP03 is released for BI 4.1 now, issues found in SP01 that are SAP product issues are likely already corrected or at least under investigation.

      I hope that helps,

      Carly

I'm new to the forum and to BO trying to trace the cause of the same error reported here. We are using BO 4.1 SP2 with Java 21 (thats what our supplier/consultant wanted not the current version which is 55) My Rich Client works fine its the Web version that gives me this error after < 10 seconds after starting the app.

Pointer or suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers

    Rod

seems to be an Antivirus issue, you must add the WebiRichClient.exe to exclusion list of Antivirus.

See SAP Note 2071236 - BI 4.1 Client tool Error:Your session timed out. Close the
Java interface and log on again

    • We have the same issue with SBOP 4.1 SP6 - after upgrade or a fresh install of the client tools (WeBi only) ther is alway this error message " Your session timed Out. Close the Java interface and log on again." We are using Java 1.7.45 but there are some test clients with Java 1.8.60 which have the error as well.

Your "workaround" is working - after disabling all network connections the RichClient is starting. After enabling the network connections we can connect to all of our SBOP servers. The RichClient is only running in this sequence. But - of course - this can't be a customer friendly solution. I have opend a ticket and i'm exited what solution is coming from SAP.

I have experienced this problem many times. It seems that Webi retains its connection in temp directories after it is closed. The problem has been quite consistent particularly during upgrade installations.

If that connection data is no longer valid to the opening environment, this message will appear - on my Win 7 environment it doesn't matter whether I'm disconnected from the network, or when my Antivirus is on or off.

When I delete all BOBJ files in TEMP directories it always seems to stop the error.

    • Webi must not be running in the background
    • In Win 7 the TEMP directories with BOBJ folders were in 3 different directories under \Users\username\AppData:
      • ./Local/Temp
      • ./Roaming/Temp
      • ./LocalLow/Temp.
    • In each of the 3 open the TEMP folder and look for Business Objects, and delete the files.
    • If you are still experiencing difficulty, try removing files in:
      C:\Users\username\Documents\My SAP BusinessObjects Documents\LocData\Webi\Settings

Apparently temp files may fail to release obsolete connection states when Webi closes. Most annoying.

I hope this works for other people as it has been difficult to root out the problem.
