Not able to remove a measures from analysis

Hi All,

I have recently started exploring with Analysis for Office. I am using version 1.4.0.2528.

On selection of perticular bex queries as data source for analysis I get results for some sets of rows and combination.

Now my problem is I am not able to remove objects (measures) from columns section in Design Panel (cannot drag and remove or right click removed is greyed out) but I can remove all objects from rows.

To my surprise I am observing this behavior only with few bex queries for others I can add or remove objects from rows and columns. Being beginner I am quite unsure about the aspects I need to look into.

I could not track similar scenarios in a forum.

I would appreciate any guidance regarding the same.

Thanks,

Amit

Dear Amit,

Is it possible that you have made changes to the BEx Query (or the InfoCube/MultiProvider behind it) after you created your report?  This sometimes has very weird effects on a AAO report.

Can you try to use the same BEx Query in a new report and check if you still have this issue?

Kind regards,

Lieselot

Thanks Lieselot for the reply.

I believe changes could be a reason for such behavior as lots of activities are going in backend by BW team. I have observed the same behavior with a new reports.

Thanks to filter by member functionality I am managing my way by unchecking the measures. However I still miss the easy drag and drop.

Thank you Tammy and Gaurav,

Yes , I  contacted BW people, and received information that those measures are forming structures. So is there any workaround other than removing structures?

Gaurav,

I tried to remove them individually and with multiple selection as well, in both cases I could not do anything.

Amit,

What user access level group do you belong to for the SAP systems ?  There is no way you should not be able to drag objects on and off with the appropriate access level, I've never heard of that.

I'm assuming you only have " Report Reader " access to all reports or a few reports in your company which is preventing you to make any changes to the report, did you escalate this to the system administrator in your org. ?? What did they have to say ?

PS : Workaround to structures ?? as such no but the point is to have an indepth understanding of the purpose of the Bex query, why were structures created in this query in the first place ? what primary purpose are they solving in the query ? what business requirement is this query solving ? If you find answers to all these questions above and see a purpose for these structures in this query you should still be able to drag objects in and out of the report (with appropriate system access). If there is no specific requirement behind the creation of these structures then the easiest way out is to break the structures at Query designer level (Assuming structures are causing this issue to your report).

So here's a summary of the steps i would take :

> Escalate the issue to the system administrator and check your access level for all reports.

> Find out the purpose behind creating these structures in the Query.

Keep me posted !

Thanks

Thank you Gaurav for your reply.

Today I noticed that I am able to manage the key figures by using Filter by Members option.

This way I am able to get desired number of measures in my analysis. I am not sure about the restrictions about the access, as I was able to drag and drop with other queries.

Anyways thanks for the reply, so currently working my way using filter by members.

Hi Amit,

is this resolved yet ?

If not, send me a screenshot of measure tree coming from Bex (without right clicking). Why does the first picture show expansion sign under measures (looks like grouping/structure formed at Bex level) ?

Assuming that the measures are grouped/structured in this Bex query, Analysis will not allow you to remove or drag a measure structure at once, however, if you expand the groups and remove measures one at a time or ctrl+multiple selection ,  it should work.

Keep me posted .

All the best

GD

Looks like you are using an early version of 1.4

Could you apply the latest SP of Analysis Office (I am on SP5) and see if the behavior is the same?

If it is the same then perhaps check the settings in the BEx Query Designer

Thank you Tammy for the quick response.

Is it not same behavior to be observed with all queries? However I can do add/remove measures with others.

Apologies to bother you more; could you direct me what things I need to look into in Query Desinger as I have very limited knowledge regarding the same.

Compare the properties on the key figures in the BEx query on the ones you can remove versus the ones you cannot remove.  What is different?
