WEBI 4.1 - BICS - Access type for Result Values

Former Member

Hi Expert,

I'm going to create new webi reporti in BO 4.1 using BICS connection.

I'd like to use in Bex query the property "Master Data" in "Access type for Result Values" but doesn't work.

I've done that:

step 1

1. set property Master Data in Access type for Result Values for infoobjects 0COSTCENTER in bex query

2. Insert infoobjects 0COSTCENTER in my WEBI report and it DOESN'T works! I'm showing only posted values.....

step 2

1. set property "Retrieve empty rows" in webi report query panel

2. refresh report, and now it WORKS fine!!!!

step 3.

1. add 0CURRENCY in bex query

2. set property Posted values in Access type for Result Values for infoobjects 0CURRENCY in bex query

3. add 0CURRENCY in webi query panel

3. add 0CURRENCY IN webi report and now I'm showing ALL currency though without value.

At this point I'm thinking that property "Access type for Result Values" in BEX query for BICS connection DOESN'T WORK!!

Could someone confirm that?

Hi Gianmaria ,

Bex query property "Master Data" in "Access type for Result Values" is only for BEx analyzer.

Below thread may help

Thansk for your help.

Hi Gianmaria ,

What you are trying to achieve ? Do you want to get Master data of a object into the report/at prompt level?

I' need to obtain the same result that i have with BEX query at reporting level.

As the step specified before I need to have in the report the list of 0COSTCENTER with master data and the values of 0CURRENCY only posted.

I've found this document at page 13 says that "Read Mode for characteistics (master data, InfoCube) " is supported.

You can do master data reporting with a second data provider and merging of dimensions, as discussed here:

But you bring up a good point, I would think that it is not correct that read mode for charachteristics is marked as supported there, hopefullycan comment on this one.

Hi,

the read mode on the InfoObject influences only the F4 help but not the data retrieval itself.

see my other response on the property Retrieve empty Rows.

hi Victor,

a second query or a second provider is not needed

Hi Hingo,

I need the second query because if i use only a query with flag "retrieve empty rows" every infoobjects returns master data values.

My requirement is to have infoobjects 0COSTCENTER with master data values and 0CURRENCY with posted values.

Hello Gianmaria,

correct the setting in the BEx query will retrieve the master data information based on the navigation status for elements in the rows and columns.

if you only need this for a single InfoObject you would have to solve it in the BW modeling by for example exposing the InfoObject as InfoProvider and then using a Composite Provider or a InfoSet (depending on BW version).

Why do you need 0CURRENCY ? remember that the currency field in Web intelligence is not identical to 0CURRENCY as 0CURRENCY is only there once in the query and if you have more than one measure the currency field is the correct one.

Also remember that Web Intelligence is a relational product and not an analytical product and Web Intelligence will always struggle with these concepts and the better choices for BW and HANA are the Analysis products.

Hello Gianmaria,

Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports "ignore" the setting in the BEx Query Designer and the setting you mentioned for Web Intellience (Retrieve empty rows) is the correct setting to achieve what you looking for.

Ignore all the other suggestions about two queries, or several providers - those are not needed for this.

Simply set the property Retrieve empty Rows and Web Intelligence will show the report based on the master data.

Analysis Office and Analysis OLAP are using the setting from the BEx Query and there is no extra step needed.

Hi Ingo,

Nice one, agree, it is indeed a much cleaner approach than using two data providers.

But this confirms that the Read Mode for characteristics (master data, InfoCube) on your presentation is incorrectly marked as supported for Web Intelligence, when in fact it is being "ignored".

Best regards,

Victor

Hi Victor,

it says "Read mode for CHARACTERISTICS" and not read mode for BEx query.

The read mode for the characteristics is a property of the InfoObject and Web Intelligence does support that.

The read mode for the query is not supported with Web Intelligence.

so - no need to change the slides as these are very different things.

Hi Ingo,

I did not mention read mode for BEx query, you did 😉

Because you asked if the slides have to be changed and the answer is no. This forum entry is about the read mode for the BEx query and not the InfoObject and those are very different items.
