MRP control parameters - planning mode

Hi experts,

I am new to PP. I have a question regarding one of the parameters available in MD02. It is the parameter 'planning mode'. It gives me three options.

1.Adapt planning data

2. Re-explode BOM and routing

3. Delete and recreate planning data.

I am not able to get a lucid explanation on internet. Could any of you give me a brief explanation with an example?

One of the sites mentioned about 'un-firmed' orders. Could any of you please tell me about it?

Sethuraman,

Being "new to PP" only means that you should be more diligent during your searches, prior to creating your questions in SCN.  I will assume that during your search you overlooked the obvious sources.  This topic has been discussed multiple times in SCN.  It is also explained quite well in SAP online help.

Look here:

Planning Mode - Planning Process - SAP Library

An  'Un-firmed order' is an order that has not been firmed, look here to see about firming:

Firming Procurement Proposals - Procurement Proposal (PP-MRP-PP) - SAP Library

Once you have studied the info in these links, please come back with specific questions about the areas that still puzzle.

Best Regards,

Hi Sethuraman,

Please refer the OSS note 78867 - MD01: Documentation on the planning mode

Significance of the planning mode

The indicator controls how the order proposals (planned orders, purchase requisitions, delivery schedules) from the last planning run are dealt with, when its quantities and finish dates correspond to the new requirements situation and when they are not fixed.

The following options exist for the planning mode:

1. The order proposals are reactivated, that is, neither bill of material (BOM) explosions nor reschedulings occur (planning mode '1').

2. For the order proposals, the bills of material are reexploded.  If a planned order has already been subjected to lead time scheduling, it is scheduled again, although the 'Lead time scheduling' parameter is not used.

3. The order proposals are created again from scratch (planning mode '3').
