    Hi Jove,

Data retention at plant level helps a lot in cases where you just use one purchasing organisation for a many plants may be across nations.

Assume there is only one purchasing organisation for whole Europe, and you have plants in Germany, France and Switzerland.

data maintained In the purchasing organisation view at general view effect all plants, except you have entered extra data for a plant. e.g. you could maintain the currency EUR at general purchasing org level, and you create purchasing org data specific for Swiss plant where you enter SFR as currency.

Please go tohrough the below links for more detail...

    Hi Jove,

In simple term, Retention level means the organization level at which a specific data can be maintained.

To be more precise, let us say about pricing. In SAP IS Retail, the price of an article can be maintained at 3 levels. First is on Distribution chain level, second is on price list level and the third is on Site level. The first price is very general as it is applicable for entire distribution chain, second price is little specific as it is for specific group of stores and the third price is most specific whereas it is applicable for individual site.

So these levels are knows as Retention level for maintained data.

I hope this clarifies your doubt.

    Regards,

    Amit

    Hi,

As discussed above the Retention level is nothing but a organisational unit level where data or information can be stored

if u take purchase org unit as an example all purchasing related activities are carried out through this unit and acts as a data retention level for vendor master data and the purchase group which is below level in org unit is not a data retention level.

    Regards

    Hi,

In addition to the above, Reference Sites (Purchasing and Logistic) can also be used as data retention levels in pricing.

    Regards,
