How to get BW variables to use long text in Webi prompt? (using BICS)

I have a Webi report created from a BW query and I would like to allow users to use the long description on the LOV search / prompts screen.

Example:

Cost Center Master data in ECC

Cost Center Number: 123

Cost Center Short Description: "Inf Mgmt"

Cost Center Long Description: "Information Management"

Variable is created on the BW query.

In the Webi report, when I refresh the list of values  I only see the short description "Inf Mgmt" and If I search by the long description I get no results.

I am using BI 4.0 SP4, BW 730.

try to change the text type to long description in rsa1.

Thanks for the tip, before I change that setting I wanted to be sure that that option "Text Type" in RSD1 is used by the webi report variable screen.

Are you sure that that option will work or it is a good tip to "try"? I do not want to change objects and do regression tests before I conceptually know that it should work...

Not sure, but it should be either Text Type or Bex Description option or both. If you have any test system, you can try it out there.

Hi Rodrigo,

I double-checked on SAP BW 7.3 SPS 04 and SAP BI 4.1 SP01.

I changed the info object and tested... works as expected...

Hi,

Did you changed the short desc to long under BEx characteristic desc?.

That change should work in WebI. Also in WebI, give * or ? to get the results.
