error message appears in logfile INPUT-USER-CREDENTIALS_XX.LOG

when trying to deploy a patch for NW730 server core we get an

error during configuration phase after entering user/password for the

administration user

The following error message appears in logfile INPUT-USER-CREDENTIALS_XX.LOG

The following problem has occurred

during step execution: com.sap.sdt.util.diag.DiagException: Could not

display dialog UserPasswords.

Could not execute dialog UserPasswords. See previous messages.

Error while trying to validate Administrator password.

     Possible reason: the J2EE engine is not started.

     Error while trying to get initial context.

1. com.sap.engine.services.jndi.persistent.exceptions.NamingException:

Exception during getInitialContext operation. No server is running.

[Root exception is com.sap.engine.services.security.exceptions.BaseLoginException:

Exception in remote login.]

Check below sap note :

1726902 - PREPARE/INIT/USER_PASSWORD Error while trying to get initial context during upgrade or EHP...

Also check the administrator password.

Can you please provide me more info who you are deploying the patch

Is the application running.

Have you tried telnet command to deploy the patch. have you checked that you have correct administrator password.
