Has anyone attended this course. Please let me know what you thought about it. Did it give you a good foundation on the Webdynpro technology? What specific topics did you find interesting. I am planning to attend, but I want to make sure its forth while. I have done some work in Webdynpro and have completed the tutorials. I just wanted to know if I would get anything out of this course. Thanks for any replys.

Hi Rich,

I took this course three months ago after several weeks of dabbling around with the tutorials. Two weeks after returning home I was doing amazing things with Web Dynpro. This course is worth its weight in gold.

Like the previous responder, I too recommend the book "Inside Web Dynpro for Java". Its author is the same guy who designed the JA310/JA311 course. I was also lucky enough to have him as my instructor when I took the course.

Do the course... you won't be sorry.

Hi Rich,

well, I guess if the course is good or not depends a lot on the trainer. I also attended this course some weeks ago, but it was not really good. I did most of the SDN-tutorials before and what I learnt was not that much in the end.

In my opinion also the book 'Inside Web Dynpro for Java' is not really worth to buy it. For me it's more a copy of the help you already have in the NWDS.

So, I guess in the end it's more a decision based on which learning type you prefer (learn alone or in groups) and if you already looked deep into the tutorials or not.

If you get a good trainer in the end or not depends on your luck.

I definitely don't share your opinion on the book "Inside Web Dynpro". I do not know of any other resource that explains the Web Dynpro runtime concepts and API more clearly.

Rich,

I was in a similar position where I had done some work in WD and had done several of the tutorials prior to taking the course.

I found some of the info in the course a review, but there were some concepts and additional information that I got out of the course that was not in the tutorials (especially since a lot of the tutorials walk you through step by step and don't really give you the 'why').

I would also recommend getting the 'Inside Web Dynpro for Java' book from SAP Press. I read the book within a week after taking the course and it went more in-depth on topics and was good as a review as well as deepening my understanding of the topics.

Cindy, Thanks for ther reply.

<i>...(especially since a lot of the tutorials walk you through step by step and don't really give you the 'why').</i>

I completely agree with you here. Anyone can walk thru step by step, I'm looking for the "why". In that regard, did the course help.

I do have the book that you mentioned, and read it in about a day. I think that was part of my problem, too much information too quickly. I will read it again after the course.

Did the course deal much with the code. What I mean is, did it go over how to access the data in the java code using things like wdContext and that kind of stuff?

Awaiting your reply. Thanks.

Rich,

Others have already answered the questions you asked after my response, but I'll put my 2 cents in anyway.

I thought the class did a good job of explaining concepts and the 'why'. There is quite a bit of hands-on and how to access the data, etc.

Also, if you have any questions you've run across while working with it, make sure to find time to talk to the instructor about them. Our instructor was very willing to talk about specific issues.
