Promotion Planning - Error "Planning Version Not Specified"

I am trying to set up a Promotion in IDES and get the following error msg. when creating a Promotion in Interactive Planning.  Can someone help me correct the problem.

You just need to scroll the create promotion screen further down

When you scroll to the bottom you will see the fields, you are missing

Still looking for help to the above error msg.  Help this dummy so he can help others!

I think I have all the prerequisites but not sure I have created a Baseline Forecast using Mass Processing?  I don't see a Key Figures under Administration of Demand and Supply Network Planning in the Planning Area.  I did not create this Planning Area nor the Key Figures it was already set up in IDES with a Promotion KF in the Planning Book / Data View.

Really need help!

Hi Kevin

Please see if you have defined the Promotion Key figure using  below Tcode.

/SAPAPO/MP33 - Maintain Promotion Key Figures.

Also please use /SAPAPO/MSDP_ADMIN and Goto into your DP Planning Area, Then "Extras" Menu --> Forecast Settings option. Please verify the settings like Forecast Key figure etc.

Hi Satish,

In the original picture the Status is In Process and Not Active and I get the error Planning Version not specified.  I don't see where to select or set any Planning Version.

Please note that I am using IDES and selected a Planning Book / Data View that I did not create (I don't know how) so it is possible the problem is deeper even though the KF existed in the Planning Book.  Do I need a Master Forecast Profile?

I'm not familiar with the Forecast Settings and what and how to set it up.  The New Key Figure Assignment isn't intuitive to me. 

This is what I have set up. 

Promotion Key Figure will not change from Display to Input/Output?

MP33 Maintain Promotion Key Figure appears correct?

Creating a Promotion.  When I go through the steps I end up with the original error message, but I do see at the bottom of those directions that it asks for a Planning Version, but where?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Kevin,

I did some investigation. Following are the details -

1. Screenshot which you had shared in your question shows Promotion which you had created using /SAPAPO/MP34. I see you have created Absolute Promotion with Periodicity of 'Week' without any Cannibalization Group.

This all looks fine.

2. "Planning Version not specified" is not the error, it is just information message.  I believe "Planning Version" need to be specified when you create Selection Profile.  Please check your selection profile.

3. Usually, once you create the promotion(as per #1 above), you assign the objects by using button "assign multiple objects". It is used to assign CVCs to the promotion. This is an important step.

4. However If you do NOT want to use Promotion KF from /SAPAPO/MP33 then you can create promotion base using /SAPAPO/MP40. This is just an option available, you need not to use.

5. Once the objects are assigned, status of Promotion is changed from D(draft) to P (planned in future)

6. Master Forecast Profile is NOT required. As Promotion Planning is not integrated into the Statistical Forecasting  process.

I've tried adjusting the Planning Version in the Selection Profile and no luck.  Still not able to save and receive msg "Planning Version not Specified". 

Where do you assign the objects and where is the button or is this only after the Promotion has been created.  I haven't been able to create.

Hello Kevin,

When I saw 'Promotion Planning Error.JPG' (which you had uploaded while posting your initial question) it shows Promotion being created with name PROMO T-FV100 V1.  I tried to explain this in Point#1 in my previous response to you.

Yes Objects can be assigned only after you create the promotion. You will see button in MP34 screen.

As per my understanding, sequence of steps would be

1. Maintain Promotion Key Figures using MP33. Whatever Characteristics and Key figure you maintain in MP33 gets visible in MP34 screen as well.

2. Create Promotion using MP34.  This is screen which  looks very similar to Interactive Planning Book. On top left corner (above selection profile icon), you have small white color icon which is used for creating promotion.

3. Assign Objects (Specify Levels and Characteristic for the promotion)

4. Activate the promotion

Besides above steps,  you have a few optional features/settings which can be used in Promotion Planning.

-  MP40 can be used to create promotion base (refer my previous response for its usage). I think you have used that feature while creating your promotion(based on uploaded screenshot).

- MP31 can be used to defined attributes, which helps in additional selection criteria or navigation in MP34.

- If you foresee cannibalization effect due to promotion, then you can define the same using by using cannibalization profile MP32

Frankly, I am kind of short of input/ideas now, also I am not an expert in Promotion Planning area.  I will say, Good Luck to you and hope you will be able to put all this together to make Promotion planning works.

Also May I request you revert with your learning's once you fix the current issue to benefit the community.
