HI All,
We are having windows OS and Sybase ASE database now the issue is we are in the process of backup testing.
We have taken full backup and how can we test the backup in sybase .
We need to check the backup to restore or ?
Is their any otherway to test the backup.
Please suggest the merits and demerits
Advance Thanks
Hi,
I can only think that is the only way to test backup is restore.
But it depends how you take the backup and do the restore.
Please check the below link. Hope that helps

Dear SAP Basis
Its my advise in regards of database. Always, there are procedure exist to backup and restore the database.
You can check the backup on Quality server after successful backup made of quality server instead of PRD backup restore on quality server, its required the post configuration for the refresh quality server by PRD.
Also, you need confidence for the PRD restoration on PRD system which are clustered, you have to do exercise to restore the PRD backup on PRD server for the Backup confidence.
You might don't know what steps or screen are different to restoration on PRD server. This exercise will give you confidence and you will achieve milestone.

Hello
Check these SAP notes
1585981 - SYB: Ensuring Recoverability for Sybase ASE
1887068 - SYB: Using external backup and restore with SAP Sybase ASE
1618817 - SYB: How to restore a Sybase ASE database server (UNIX)
If you want to check the quality of the production system backup then the nest option would be to take the backup of the PRD system and restore it to the QUA system (system refresh) and check whether it is alright.
Note: The above SAP note for backup and restore is for Unix. The Windows one is here and for some reason I cannot view it.
